Been thinking about adding this but I'm concern on being limited by connections. I have basically 2 sources, my htpc with all my ripped content and a direct tv HD STB. Both are connected with hdmi to my receiver.

It looks like the slingbox device has no hdmi at all. How is this going to work with my existing setup? Also, you need a computer. What do you need the computer for? I thought the box did the transcoding. And lastly, will I be able to stream any content from my htpc?

what are you trying to stream, and where do you want it streamed? Another PC? You would plug the set top box into the Slingbox. You then run the software on your PC in order to view the stream from the slingbox (they also have a web-browser version of the software that doesn't need an install).

i'd do two devices (like vulkano or hava). component or svideo to the box and then sling it at D1 resolution. 640x480 is plenty for wan.

do not buy sling! worlds worst support. never buy used. hell even if you buy new you get 90 days support then they want a credit card for support.

how about doing this?

directv STV -> COMPONENT -> HTPC 7MC with IR blaster. Then use an xbox360 or media center extender -> (sling/hava/vulkano) to wan. That would work too.
