i've been back and forth b/t my parents and my apt lately so i set up an ftp server (filezilla server) with ssl/tls encryption. how secure is this type of server? will any parties be able to see any data that is transmitted (isp for example) or tell what type of files/data it is if they examine the packets?

thanks

You think they are looking at private data transactions??? crazy. They will get you on something like p2p because you are sending your public ip everywhere, but from your parent's house to your apt? No.
