How screwed is my insurance after my first ticket?

I posted earlier about how I received my first ticket for speeding at 155 km in a 100km zone. The cop knocked it down to 140, and didn't suspend my license. There is a 295$ fine though, which is well deserved and I am happy to pay it.

I am curious as to what this will mean for my insurance. I'm 20 and have had a clean driving record for nearly 4 years. I know this is my first ticket but it is a very large one, should I expect my insurance to skyrocket?

your fookeD!

actually, im not sure how the laws are where you are, but here, if you havent had a ticket in the last year, you can do a pretrial diversion, and if you dont get another ticket in the next six months, it ets erased, but you do have to pay a fine. its worth looking into

Take defensive driving if you're allowed to (considering you're using km instead of miles, I'll assume you're in Canada) to keep it off your record

Traffic school... if it knocks off that point, then your insurance is untouched.

I'm in Ontario. Can someone clarify then, there is a way to just pay the ticket and say, take traffic school again and then my insurance will be unaffected ?

in the U.S. if you pay the ticket, and take traffic school then it will be on your record by it won't be on your record as in you'd get insurance points off for it. you can only do the traffic school trick once in every 3 years.

(I did this exact thing when I was 16) haven't been pulled over since)

Yes, duh!

That is why I asked.

Since you are in Ontario I suggest calling Points, to find out exactly what options are available.

Call your insurance agent. There's a difference between how long something will stay on your record, and how long the insurance co. will consider it in their pricing, my wife just talked with ours, he said a speeding ticket (as long it's the only one) will affect it for a year, while accidents will affect it longer.

So, yeah, call your insurance to find out.
