Farging 126 here in Ithaca. Damn college kids.

Wow, I didn't think Ithaca was that bad 🙂 It's probably all the dope smokers and underage drinking 😀

164...which really surprises me. I live on the south side of Chicago, about one block north of the Robert Taylor Homes, or the GHETTO for those of you unfamiliar with the area. We hear gun fire all the time; in fact, last week a guy was shot on our campus and made his way over to the baseball field before dying there. :Q

123, but it rates it based on the entire city (of almsot 1/2 a millino people). I bet this particular neighborhood is more like 50-75.

My hometown is 59. However, the average home price is over 4 times the national average... .which is why I don't live there.

I'm in birmingham AL - specifically Hoover and the zip I entered gave me a crime index of 49. The median household income here is 70k (ours is lower since mrs isn't working!). I thought it was ritzy but damn! it's better than the average for everything (except pricier...)

Yeah cause you live in Alberta. You wouldn't be saying that in Halifax 😉

Fremont, CA

Total Crime Index: 35 100 (county average)
Personal Crime Index: 37 100 (county average)
Property Crime Index: 30 100 (county average)

Air Quality Index: 3 3.44
Total Crime Index: 49

Property Crime Index: 53
Culture Index: 148

Total Crime Index: 106

Considering the city has over 1 million people, San Jose has the lowest Big City crime rate.

48. This is cool though: Median Household Income: $109484 Nat. Avg: $36766.47

Beautiful downtown Oakland, California

Crime index 214 (should be updated to about 400 though).

I think there have only been about 200 murders here this year, probably the highest in the nation, so I feel pretty safe.

Total Crime Index: 275
Personal Crime Index: 145
Property Crime Index: 422

but this is a crock, because I used to live in an area where 911 calls were ignored and I was frequently chased or assaulted and people would rattle the doors at night trying to get in and it rates:

Total Crime Index: 213
Personal Crime Index: 255
Property Crime Index: 210

There must be **huge*** discrepancies in the way things are reported. perhaps in many really bad areas people don't report things because they know the police won't bother coming (seriously). Where I live now there are a lot of bike and moped thefts but I feel far, far safer than anywhere else I've ever lived.

Wow, it surprises me that the indexes for fremont, ca are so much lower than newark, ca.

Midland, TX (west-end.... re: WesTSyyyyyyydEe!! 😀)

Total Crime Index: 110 100 (county average)
Personal Crime Index: 80 100 (county average)
Property Crime Index: 126 100 (county average)

Kinda surprising- our neighborhood is known as one of the safest in all of West Texas. The zipcode entered (doesn't judge you on your neighborhood alone) spans for a bit east into a lot of lower-second-class apartment complexes a few miles away. That's probably why.

did anyone else notice the "county average" rather than national average in parentheses. If this is the case, we cannot make regional comparisons.

231 (354 property crime)... good game, i win! 😉

but something's really f'd up with this system, because across the street where there actually IS crime (low income housing, crack dealers, murder earlier this year, rapist/muderer caught by police on monday), yahoo reports a crime index of 40.

Total Crime Index: 226..............100 (county average)
Personal Crime Index: 181......100 (county average)
Property Crime Index: 215........100 (county average)

Apparently I live in a cesspool of crime.
