How safe is it to do a 5V mod on fans?

Even at the lowest setting, the Vantec Spectrum Card Fan was too loud for me (irritating whining sound).

So I 5 volted it. I have the positive in pin 4(red) and the negative in pin 2. (originally was pin 1(+) and pin 2(-))

Should I only connect other 5V items to this PSU line? Cuz of I the 5 Volted Card Fan and a video card plugged on the same line.

Rails before:
+3.3 - 3.28
+5 - 4.97
+12 - 11.73 (11.80 on occassion, 11.67 under stress)

Rails after:
+3.3 - 3.28
+5 - 4.89 (jumps frequently between 4.84 and 4.97)
+12 - 11.73 (but it jumps a lot between 11.61 and 11.80)

I mean, it jumps a lot. I'm using Everest to check my rails, and they change a bit every 3 seconds. And before, the rails would hardly ever change.

Any suggestions?
