Well, sorry to hear that, OP, but my job is moving from our current location to the top 3 floors in a bank building, and we're being forced to dress "professional". I was told it's because of the location - because everybody else in the building is "professional" dress as well. I told them I really don't give a damn what some stuffy, shirt and tie @sswipe thinks about the way I dress, professional is extremely uncomfortable, and I don't do my job well when i'm uncomfortable. Plus we're phone reps, we don't need to be professionally dressed to do our jobs, just dressed, period! I don't get the biz world's fascination with button up shirts, slacks and horribly painful to wear dress shoes.
edit: sorry for the threadjack.
you sound like me. i hate dressing up. jeans and t-shirts all the way!
This is why I like my current job. I've worn the same jeans and t-shirt all week, since I get totally covered with dust/dirt while working, so I don't like ruining good clothing. We watch movies during our lunch break (whatever we want, all guys here so no limits 😉), and during our coffee breaks we stand out front and juggle a soccer ball around. On slow nights we've sometimes taken slightly longer breaks (sometimes MUCH longer), just one of the many perks we have working at night.
Still, when it gets rough it gets real rough. It's not all horrible though, they say they're going to get us all a bump in pay to help out (and to help attract new hires), and most of the people who work during the day appreciate what we do and let us know about it.
