One woman in my office heard from her friend's mother that all gas stations were order to shut off their pumps. So, one lady, who was eavesdropping on the conversation, went around the office telling everyone that there would be no more gas in Baltimore for days because all gas stations were told to shut off their pumps.

Meanwhile, gas stations have been reporting selling triple their normal amounts in the past two days because people are losing their minds and flocking to the stations.

Now, the woman is calling everyone she knows to tell them this.

rrrrr.....

Edit:

The whole story:

Kent Brockman: So, professor: would you say it's time for everyone to panic?
Professor: Yes I would, Kent.

Kent Brockman: Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?
Professor: Mmm, yes I would, Kent.

Actually that rumor started from some dumb radio station in your city bro :) I think it was 92.7 or something. Governors office has cleared this up though.

Probably 92.3, which is an urban station. If I remember correctly, they also went apesh*t during 9/11.

Blame the oil companies, not the fueling stations.

No, many individual stations have been inflating their prices in panic and/or maliciously as well. This explains the broad discrepancy between stations in a single town. Even here in the Midwest, there was as much as a 30 cent difference between stations as the panic/gouger stations pumped up their prices as soon as the bad news about gas started on the news stations.
