How Rich Would You Need To Be To Get A Panic Room?

Wealth does not warrant a panic room, power would however (with power usually comes wealth). I would say in the $100 million + range, or if you had a LOT of power. Or you are just somewhat wealthy and paranoid 😀

Why would any regular person need a panic room though?
 
If you're very handy & mechanically competent, you could probably build your own panic room for a reasonable amount of money.
 
Why would I panic. My studio has 2 private entrances. I'll most definitely hear someone coming up either of them and they'll likely get shot.
 
depends what all the technical requirements are.

Hell you could make a panic room out of sandbags if that's all you needed.

18 inches of packed sand will stop any round up to a .50 cal. Actually it only takes 12 inches, but 18 is the Army standard.

Depends on how you have it built, if you go through a contractor who only builds panic rooms for rich people, then you'd have to be loaded.

If you built one yourself, not rich at all.

I see it differently, you'd probably in there with some headphones on, you wouldn't even hear them, and then you'd choke in shock on your PBR or whatever you drink and scream like a girl.
 
Way over $10M. Before panic room I think it's probably smarter and more effective to have all doors reinforced and windows replaced with ballistic glass, plus security system. You could always beef up all bedrooms as well and make them pseudo-panic rooms. All you need to do in reality is wait until the po po show up.
 
Anyone truly into home defense knows that your bedroom should be a panic room of sorts. Deadbolts on any (reinforced) doors leading into the room, weapons, ammo and communication devices in the room and a plan to have a defensible position while in there.
 
A "panic room " is nothing more than your last-ditch effort at survival. Panic rooms can be any combination of "people proof", "weather proof", "radiation/blast proof" or some combination of them all. Security is like speed; how fast you want to go is directly related to the size of your wallet.

Assuming you have the space, you can build a very secure room quite easily. Room should not have any of the four walls touching the outside world. I.E. somewhere in the center of the home. All four walls, ceiling and floor (if not on ground/basement level) have rebar-reinforced concrete walls. Electricity run to the room but enough battery-powered light to last awhile. A few gallons of water, some beef jerky or MREs and a bucket for a toilet. A vent to the outside world that can be closed if necessary. One way in or out and enough food, water and ammo to last a few days. With the above you're good for a week. You probably wouldn' t be sane, but you'd be alive.

This "room" can be a 5x5 walk in closet if need be. It's not that hard. Just takes space and money.
