that article is fvcking horseshit.
How so? Care to back that claim?

Who would buy St. Peter's? How much rent does it bring in? The Catholic church may own many priceless works of art and property, but how could they possibly sell them to maintain cashflow? What dollar amount could meet the value of the works of Michaelangelo? Shall they sell St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC so it can be torn down and an office building put up on the spot?

Someone pointed out the Catholic church in America brings in a whopping $9.5 billion with 50 million+ members in the US. Wow... and the US government brings in $2 trillion.

I'm not a big fan of the Catholic church, but I'm not so stupid that I believe liars who claim to have been abused 40+ years ago (now that they know they will be paid millions for saying so, I'm surprised even more haven't stepped up to win the lottery), or to forget that the Catholic church is the single largest charity on earth.

i didnt see any convincing references in that article either. If he doesnt have to back up his statement neither do i.

That's the problem with the Catholic Church is they put so much value on the presentation of their masses and trying to show off to the world that they have lost a lot of their credibility. I know TONS of people who were raised Catholic and left that church for a better one.

Did you know that Catholics aren't supposed to read the bible because a normal catholic person can't possibly understand it? It's only for the Pope and Priests to read and to tell you what it means. What a crock.

Also, go see STIGMATA if you haven't. The whole point of that movie are the lost sayings that specifically say you won't find God in a big fancy building but rather under a rock or in the woods. Really cool movie.

I always remembered each one had lots of art and lots of old items such as embroidered golden priest robes, gold maces (or something like that), gold crosses, gold cups, gold jewelry, marble this marble that marble women.

So I was wondering with all the property, art, gold, and money in the bank just how rich are they?

edit: okay I get it the Catholic Church is very very very very very rich.
So when the Pope denouces the 'Imbalance' of wealth in the world, he should put his money where his mouth is and donate some of the riches they're hoarding to the poor right? Am I wrong in thinking this?

Pope Denounces 'Imbalance' of Wealth
Pope John Paul II Denounces 'Imbalance' Between Rich, Poor;

Pope John Paul II denounced the "imbalance" between the world's rich and poor Sunday and applauded efforts to eliminate hunger, like the recent U.N. initiative to increase funds for development.

And just how much have you given? More than likely nothing and even if you gave everything you ever had, do have or will have it will still be nothing. Dont get me wrong, every bit helps, but please - stfu.

Felix, although what I am posting now is not very useful, you have to be one of the most useless posters on this message board. Maddog has a good point and all you can do is ask if he has given any of his money/possessions? Do you think he has billions of dollars in revenues, property and useless gold statues?

Seems someone may need to prop up their beloved faith with a twig. (I?m making this assertion on the same grounds you made your comment about maddogg giving "More than likely nothing"

BTW: Your statements also contradict each other "even if you gave everything you ever had, do have or will have it will still be nothing" and "Don?t get me wrong, every bit helps"

So stfu yourself.

It doesnt make sense to you because you are idiot. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for proving my statement. Now please go do something useful to society and jump of the nearest cliff/tall building.

Yeah actually from his posts he does seem that way, which isn't real common on here. 🙂

some non-Catholic "expert" on Catholicism has misinformed you.

Catholics are encouraged to read the Bible.
there are readings from the Bible DAILY (see here
under the section mysteriously labeled "Daily Reading").

wth? Who is to say your friends left for a "better church"

Spamela has already corrected you on your blatantly ignorant comment regarding catholics not reading the bible. What do you think we do at those extravagant ceremonies every sunday?

Btw...i think extravagant is....having a lunatic reverend/pastor shouting in incoherent fashion about stuff we typically would learn in the third grade at Catholic Catechism class -- meanwhile having the "blessed" people "pass out" while all of this was occuring as if to say they were touched by the words of God, rather than the pontification of a psycho. Next you cut to a rock band that praises the lord in a superfluous manner - managing to strip away all that's divine regarding God in a 3 minute time span. Cut to the body builders who really just roid but claim their lifting is due to some sort of intervention by God. yea...maybe you think a 1 hour long mass consisting of prayer and adoration - reading over scriptures and not hearing some alcoholic's opinion on the liturgy is extravagant....but i disagree.

I much rather have a man you claim to be a pedophile, but i know to be a scholar of God's word preach...then some billy joe dud who goes through a mid-life crisis, decides to put down the keg, and begins preaching the "word of the Lord" all within a span of one month.

And how about the fact that a typical Protestant perish will wait on you hand and foot. Not because they really care that you follow their idea of Christianity But so that you return the following Sunday, and regularly hand out your $$ to them, because without the support of as many of their members , their church would collapse within a month. So if you want to go ahead and bash the catholic church and call them inferior to your "better" church....how about you take a look at all the flaws with your "better" church, and then post your crap.

Not necessarily true..

Ironically some of the most intelligent people i know are also extremely religious. From Jews, Christians and Muslims, to budhists and what not...To random religions you've never even heard of. A lot of atheists believe that since a lot of the intellectuals of the past were atheist...that they can simply mimic them, and everyone will immediately fall under the impression that they're extremely smart and open-minded people as well. But since i'm fairly confident that you haven't spent much time studying any particular religion for a lenghty amount of time....let alone EVERY religion in the world... your opinion that religious people are close-minded means....sh!t. Here in So - Cal...just cause we're Christian doesnt mean we all vote for Bush - Cheney. We don't throw eggs at gay people. and we dont' blow up abortion clinics. Don't blame religion...blame your environment.

Have you studied every religion to be able to back up your statement or are you going to twist and contort every statement I make like usual...

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! YOU ARE TEH DUMB!!!

you just used religious people as an example for closed-mindedness....hence you're the who has the burden of proving your stupid generalization. I don't have to study anything...cause i didn't make the statement. now tell me...what the hell did i "contort"??

All I know is that the Church owns South America.

They also are the largest landowners in NYC. The make Trump look like a pauper....

w:Qw, I didn't know that the catholics had that much stashed, when most baptist churches get enough to pay the bills for the next year, all the surpluss goes to mission funds (building sheltera, and basic amenities (running water/electricity/etc.) in 3rd world countires, building new churches and outreach ministries, etc.) The only exceptions that I know of are when the chruch buildings are becoming too small for the number of members that they need to buy/build a new facility they save up, or run a building fund with pledges for people to donate over x amount of years.

All Churches scam people for dollars. They cry "poverty" to get more money. The Protestant priests in my area all drive $70,000 Mercedes & BMW's and live in $400k+ houses. It's insane.

There is a church near me that is 680 some odd thousand square feet. If the church is low on funds, you certanly wouldn't know it by everything around me.

The church will seat 50,000 in the main room That is insane, to me anyway.

I edited this because I found their web site and some pics. Someone tell me this church doesn't have enough money. Web site
