someone told me they bought theirs in march, and it's been giving em nothing but problems playing back movies.

It is my primary DVD player, and has been since LAST March or April.

I haven't had any problems.

Did they

- mod it?
- play bootleg movies?
- suck at electronics in general?
- not know wtf they are talking about?

I'm leaning towards #3 and #4. Xboxen make great standalone DVD players. Not as good as a high-quality component unit, but very good on their own merits.

I had some trouble with DVD-Rs burned with Pinnacle Instant Copy. Otherwise it works great. Not very good picture quality though. especially on an HDTV :(

My Xbox plays movie backups (made with DVD X Copy) on DVD+R discs perfectly. :)

works great for me, used it numerous times, the remote is awful nice too, good amount of features, if you have issues:

1) return
2) get new one
3) watch movies

Never had a problem since end of last year. It's our only player and we watch a lot of movies including trying two DVD burns my brother made for me (they work). It's got a lot of features too.

Where do you live again?

:D

I bought an XBOX the other night using $180 in BlockBuster gift cards (yup, bought it at BlockBuster). I put it up for sale on craigslist & had a local buyer in less than 12 hours.

No XBOX for me.

good luck getting into my safe :) you already know the kind of security i put on my house, just guess at it on my safe :)

not only is it bolted down, i made a custom cement base for it that recesses it into the ground. I used class 8 bolts. the frame i bought the heaviest one on the market, possible. hehe, it's awesome :)

xbox dvd drives are pretty good. I've used
three different xbox's since they have been
out and have 0 problems playing dvd's.

The thompson xbox dvd isn't as good as the samsung dvd
drive but their both real good for console dvds. The samsung
will play any media you throw at it including cdr's. I suggest
trying to find an xbox with a samsung dvd drive.
