you know, I've always had this feeling carpoint says everything is reliable, so just now I looked up the VW bug and a hyundai sonata and it gave those cars perfect marks also.

if anyone has firsthand experience, I'd like to hear it.

I currently own a 2000 Mustang GT.

I have 31,000 miles on it so far.

I would consider the car to be very reliable.

The only mechanical problem I have had so far is the oil pressure sender to the oil pressure gauge malfunctioned. It was fixed under warranty.

Aside from routine oil changes and tire rotations, I have installed a new air filter and at the last service I had a new fuel filter installed.

Also, it is not mechanical, but about a year and a half ago I had to have the hood repainted due to peeling paint. Somehow it left the factory without primer on the fiberglass hood.

The 4.6l is a very reliable motor and they hold up real well. My Dad replaced his 275k mile 4.6l t-bird last year with a 02 GT and sofar with 50k on it not one single problem.

A ford taurus has almost nothing in commen with a mustang. If there is one thing Ford does really well its V8 rwd cars.

The 4.6 is a good but expensive engine to work on.

They handle up to 13lb of boost before you spin bearings and scatter your lower end. My 4.6 98 GT ran 250hp of nitrous, but I had modifications to it.

Mustangs are squeeky cars too.

I know my 89 is but I haven't noticed any on the 02 yet. You can't hear the squeaks over the roar of the engine most of the time anyway ;).

I seem to recall using carpoint in the past and noticing that almost everything got top notch reviews, so I think it's fairly useless for reliability!

Mustang GT is one of the few domestics I'd really consider - which for me says a lot. I'm all about cheap power !

Most new cars are very reliable from all brands the difference of one new car from another is often from uber-reliable to very reliable. There are probably still lemons out there, but they are few and far between.

Should be pretty good. Ford's 4.6 litre (281 CID) V8 is a very solid engine and it has an excellent history. I've got the DOHC version in my Lincoln Mark VIII and it's an amazing engine. I just love it. The manual transmission is pretty solid in the Mustang too. Don't know much about the automatic, but I've never heard of abnormal issues with it.

EDIT: IIRC the Mustang 4.6 is the SOHC (2 valve/cyl) version. It's no less reliable but a little less powerful. The engine in the Mark VIII puts out 290 HP stock. I'm sure it can be tweaked for a good bit more.

Hey now... my 2000 ford taurus has been pretty good to me. No major problems at all except for a jammed cd changer (which was my friends fault for putting CD's w/ half-peeling-off stickers on them in the changer).

Why does your friend put stickers on CDs?

When buying a used car its reloablity is going to be more based on age and how the last opwner took care of it. If buying new then look at the overall car company and see if they have major problems in one area or not. Like for example VW has always had electirical problems, and they still do. So if you look at a VW look for the electirical problems.

But for the mustang, again if the previous owner is young then I would pass, but if new, juts find out who is in charge of the garage at the ford place so you know who to talk to if you do have a problem, and maintain your vehicle and you should be fine.
