I read somewhere, that you can overclock the memory on the GeForce 2 Mx to 210 MHz without worry since it's the same RAM as on the GTS which is clocked at 250. Does anyone know how reliable this is. My current system is somewhat crippled by the slow card but I won't have the cash to upgrade to a higher performer until later. This person claims that OCing the memory from 175 to 210 will increase performance by over 30% and bring it to within a couple of percentage points of a GTS up to 1024x768 resoloution where the GTS's 4 pipelines and 64 MB of RAM take over and it runs away. I appreciate any help anyone can give.

I have a Hercules 3D Prophet II MX (Geoforce 2 MX), and I can reliably Overclock the memory to 215, without problem. I can even do up to 220 on some games. I have additional memory heatsinks and a cardcooler installed, though. I don't know if your card has memory heatsinks. My card also has the 5.5ns memory, whereas most Geoforce 2 MX have 6ns memory.

I have no heatsinks for my memory, or card cooler. I also don't know whether my RAM is 5.5 or 6ns, probably 6 as it's just a stock card. My video card is currently the major bottleneck in my system, and I just wanted to know if I could juice it up a little for 5 or 6 months until the GeForce 3s drop in price a little, and I can afford it. I had heard that the memory could be pushed up without adding any cooling without danger and wanted to know if it was true. I don't want to throw any extra coin into a card that's probably just going to go into file and gateway server within 5 or 6 months time. I also can't afford to replace the card right now so I don't really want to fry it.

My GF2MX doen't have a heatsinks and fans on GPU or memory.
Don't want to OC the GPU but have tried the memory up to 195 with no problems.

Scared of screwing it up.

That is false. The MX uses 166 MHz SDR RAM while the GTS uses 166 MHz DDR RAM (effective 332 MHz).

Also overclocking is a quite often a random venture and the scores you can attain vary from card to card. Don't simply pick a number that you've been told should work and put your card to it straight away; take it slow and easy.
