How reliable is ATA RAID?

I am think about running RAID 0 on my ABIT KT7, and I was wondering how reliable is it? I have read up on RAID 0, 1, and 0+1, and the benefits of each. I just wanted to get some opinion on feedback on how well it works, and do people have problems with them. I am personally planning to run RAID 0 and strip two 60gb drives to get 120gb. I currently have two 30 gb drives, and I can't believe I am running out of space. I think 120gb should last me a while... hehe... =)

Any feedback is greatly appreciated....

well, reliability isn't really increased with RAID until you get to mirroring. all you're really improving are seek and sometimes write times.

so for RAID 1 and 0+1, the real question is: how reliable is using a RAID card as your ide controller. i'd say you shouldn't have any worries. though, by spreading your data across 2 disks, one disk failure could make the data on both drives irrecoverable. but the advantages of RAID outweigh the chances of failure IMHO

two drives doesnt mean that the MTBF on both drives will be doubled...i think it just comes out to one drive. so its practically just like that...having one drive. but i must admit that the thought of one driving failing and screwing the array is pretty scary. oh well...i've had raid 0 for almost half a year now and no problems yet. *knock on wood*
