How reliable are the latest bunch of maxtor hard drives?

Hi there,

My mums getting a pre-built computer and the company only uses maxtor drives. The computer will have 2 x 200 GB drives - not in raid or anything like that though.

It seems that over the last few years according to reviews/forums they've had a bad reputation with reliability and according to reviews they still seem to operate at higher temps.

Should I still be concerned? After all, maxtor drives do still seem to be selling alright.

Most people on here will say to avoid them like the plague, but I've had nothing but good experiences with them. The only time I've seen them failing is when they overheat- they do require better cooling than other drives, but they make up for it with good speeds.

I've had/got 2 Maxtors, neither have had any issues so far, but they are not that old (maybe 2 years and 6mo)
