Lets say hypothetically I bought a good quality 4gb flash drive, backed up some important data on it and threw it in my bank safe deposit box... I then completely forget about it for the next 10 years. At that time, what would be the chances of all my data still being there?
What about if it were a portable HDD like the Western Digital Passport? Would the odds be less than with the flash memory?
I've been trying to decide on the best backup plan and was thinking I'd just have a RAID 1 at home and backup my photos and financial/medical records on flash storing them at the bank. Video files are too big to economically store on flash so I was thinking something like the Passport might work.
I'm generally averse towards optical disks because I read so much about the questionability of them for long term storage.
