How reliable are Canon cameras?

I'm looking to possibly get the canon a510.

I know it seems trifle, but is this camera likely to last me a few years with proper care?

My friend has a Canon A60 and he has taken over 3000 pictures with it working for the school's newspaper.

Remember to pay for it with a premium credit card and extend your warranty to 2 years total.

I dropped my A75 in a lake on the first day of a hiking trip, and it has worked fine ever since (over a year).

Well over 3000 pictures taken.

I bought myself a canon SD200 as well for portability. No problems and it has been 1500 pictures on it.

Basicly... why buy anything else?

I've heard that, does that actually work?

But then again anything is better than Sony.

I've got a Canon 20D and to be honest its starting to act up. My pop up flash does not release about 25% of the time for some reason.

my s410 has broken twice (once in warranty, one out...but they fixed it for free both times).

1st time the camera would not turn on with the CF card inserted. they first said there was not a problem and sent it back. is aid there was and they finally fixed it. apparently it was a short somewhere in the CF contacts.

2nd problem was the little plastic piece that splits open to expose the lense would not open/close. i was expecting to have to pay to get it fixed but they fixed it for free, even though i was ~3 months out of warranty.

first canon camera i've had issues with though, out of 3

My A70 is giving some trouble with the preview LCD, but othewise it works fine. It has these weird lines going across it. But otherwise the camera works. I plan to get a digital rebel soon. That soon depends when i can save up 1500.

I've owned a crapload of canon cameras over the years (from the original 35mm Rebel to my EOS 20D), and they've all been great. You can't go wrong.

s400, ~1900 shots, dropped twice, still good (internals still work and external cosmetics were protected with leather case)

Apparently so, I own a Canon PowerShot Pro1 and I got it like 3 weeks ago, so far = PERFECT... Canon Rocks.
