It looks solid, I also like direct access keys.
Not sure how much the Acer costs, but Micro Center has a
Compaq Presario CQ50-130US with slightly lower specs for $480.00 after rebates. The differences are the Compaq has 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 802.11g wireless, and 10/100 wired LAN, compared to the Acer's 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Draft-N wireless, and Gigabit wired LAN.
Otherwise, they are identical CPU, chipset, screen size, and so on. In fact, if you look around, all the OEMs are carrying virtually identical notebooks with T3200 processor, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, 15.4" WXGA, 6-cell battery, blah blah blah. Only differences are more or less the stuff I mentioned above.
The reason these notebooks seem so similar is because they are all using the same Intel OEM notebook reference design. Ever since Intel rolled-out reference notebook board and barebone designs, OEMs are basically selling identical notebooks with slightly different options.
