I have a 431 watt "whipser" enermax, but I recently redid my system and it's now the loudest thing in my computer.

Are there any PSUs out there of similar power and cost, but significantly quieter?

Truth be told, I'm really getting anal about this quiet thing, the clicking of my keyboard is louder than the PS fans. Can't help it tho, it's eerily soothing everytime I cut down on the noise. :D

You could always use the holy grail of silent computing.

USE HEADPHONES INSTEAD OF SPEAKERS!!!!

When I tried an enermax whisper model, I found it to be very loud.

The antec 330w truepower that replaced it was much much quieter.

my previous supply was a 250w powerman with a panaflo l1a mod, and the antec goes head to head with it. It's a pretty amazingly quiet PSU.

Os, do you have the enermax with the controllable fan speed on the back....My seems really quiet and when I put it in its space in the desk it virtually silent. I can actually hear harddrives working again!!!

I am currently interested in buying and Enermax power supply. Does the Whisper model that you got have the manual control knob on the back to control the fan speed.

Anand's review. of power supplies showed that adjusting the fan speed lowered the noise level from 36dBA to 33dBA.

Mine does not have a manual control knob.

I notice today most of the noise is from the exhaust PS fan so I may switch it out.

I have the exact same PSU. It was pretty damn loud. It has 2 fans in it, so I what I did was take the big 92mm fan out entirely. And I replaced the 80mm fan with a panaflo and it's pretty quiet now. There's still good air flow coming out of the psu, and it's not too hot.

It's so much quieter that my gainward gf4 fan is the loudest thing in my computer... for now.

OS I have the adjustable fan on my enermax EG465P-FCA...It has 2 80mm fans and the fan adjustment only controls the rear exhaust fan from 1500-3000rpm....I think the 33db-36db may be right

I have adjustable fan on alpha and I have a GF4 mx in for testing now so I can turn evrything done and low performance it and temps don't rise and this thing purrs...

I am going to mount the ys-tech fan on the outside and when I want to kick it up a notch and not idling I can boost from 2200rpm to 3600rpm and the noise there would be minimized.

Worth the money?
Cos i can get a dual fan 550W PSU (Q-Tec) for under £30, fromOverclockers UK

I can't find any detailed specs for that qtec PS. That's not a good thing. It looks pretty, but I'll just say you probably get what you pay for.

I think Enermax PS are very good, I'm pretty happy with mine except for the slight noise of course.

Thanks, i think that i`ll be ok with my 360w chieftec PSU for the moment, when i get the money though, i`ll probably get an enermax.
Theres a link to a spec sheet on the Q-Tec, on the Overclockers UK website, above the price.
Ive seen a Q-Technology 300W PSU on a top 10 PSU list, Here, i assume that Q-Tec & Q-Technology are the same.

i bought my enermax psu because i thought it was quiet... boy was i wrong :\ but i didn't notice it was so loud until i brought the computer home for winter break. i guess i noticed the sound b/c i didn't wear my headphones. ;) those things are wonderful. the world sounds much quieter to me when i wear them.
