How pretty! LA's decorated the 405 Hwy. for Christmas.

Would've added some green here and there, but I guess you work with what you've got.

Oh, I'm sorry...that's just another usual traffic jam on the 405 in LA, at least for the evening before Thanksgiving. Damn that sucks!

We're planning another LA excursion for January. You're refreshing our memories and curbing our enthusiasm.

Some of the worst traffic in the US, it actually ruined my love of cars/driving.

This time of year, it's all horns and middle fingers, lasts through the first part of Jan.

Just use Uber and the subway, relax and don't drive in that shit if you're not forced to.

Fuck that. I used to work for one of the contractors who built the LA subway...I'd rather not drive on one of their bridges...or ride in a subway they built.

It's funny how randomly these things get in the media. This is of course a long-term issue with LA traffic.

LA is the most car-centric place in the country - the thinking is literally often, drive 50 feet to go from a store on one side of the street to another.

Long ago, I discussed an observation about two types of Americans - those who discuss distance in terms of miles, and those who discuss it by time (that's 10 minutes from here). LA does time.

The traffic is horrific - but that has a lot to do with freeways not expanding as the population does, except in limited amounts at enormous expense.

If the climate isn't important enough to do something about the cars and fossil fuel, maybe the inconvenience of the traffic will be, in LA.

Of course there used to be some great public transit almost a century ago before the tire and car companies got rid of that to make a buck, reportedly.

Craig...there's a 3rd measurement...how many beers it takes to get from point A to point B.

I worked with a LOT of people who measured the drive from work to home by how many beers they drank during their commute.

"Fuck. Traffic was terrible last night. My 5 beer drive took 8 beers!"

It's California, I'm utterly shocked that they have not designated their freeways as Prius and Tesla only. Kill two birds with one stone and it's just the sort of ridiculous knee-jerk over-reaction they love so much. Probably the only thing stopping them is that illegal aliens have a hard time getting hybrids. As soon as a Prius becomes a government entitlement it'll happen.

You can't throw a rock in LA without hitting a Prius, they're insanely popular.

3 swipes on Google Maps on Sunset Blvd to find a Prius, punch in any major street in LA on Google Maps. If you're wealthy, you have a Tesla.

That's insane, I really don't get how people put up with living in big cities. Makes for a cool view though. :p

Even here I find the traffic gets bad at certain times, but it's nothing compared to that.

I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist but there has been evidence of oil companies, teamsters, and auto makers buying patents to electric cars and shelving them as well as influencing the powers that be to leave the road system alone and rejecting Walt Disney's monorail plans throughout the twentieth century so that's the LA we are stuck with and the rest of the country uses for laughing stock.

I was in Los Angeles a few times. Once with a car, and twice for work without a car. Once with a car I hated driving in the traffic. The other times without a car I hated the fact that there was virtually nothing in walking distance - you had to take a cab or rent a car. It's simply too sprawled out.

I much prefer NYC, where between mass transit options and walking you can get almost anywhere easily. That's my kind of city living. More people than LA and much easier to get around.

It's not a conspiracy theory. Until the 1950's there were light rail lines criss-crossing the city, Pacific Red Cars. From what understand it was finally bought by a tire company and run into the ground.

It also doesn't help that the sprawl of LA doesn't lend itself well to efficient mass transit. I have coworkers that commute over 60 miles each way, for example.

I live here. Traffic sucks. We have waze. Stay off the 405/101 during rush hour. I can't really do my work elsewhere. Keep fighting is for wanting proper rail and calling us stupid for wanting it. Until u experience the full force of the issue you will never understand.
