How powerful are those VIA ITX boards?

Im thinking about buying on a mini-itx motherboard and using it mainly as a webserver, but also possibly as a media center (playing avi/mpeg files only!). Will a 600MHz VIA processor be able to handle this?
 
For the web server part, it'll do fine, they're not that shabby for integer intensive code, such as a web server.
For anything media though, they're kinda crappy, I know VIA worked to remedy this, but I don't really know how that turned out, and even if it went well, it'll probably only be available in the newer cores, and those are generally in the 1+ GHz range.
