I had to fill a 2ltr bottle of water that I could punch, all because my computer was ssooooo unstable and I thought it was windows... turns out that it was a problem with my athlon and g400.. something about AGP... fix from AMD but the problem lies with Microsoft.

We have a very problematic Novell server at work. After the umpteenth crash of the week I started beating the hell out of a large metal cabinet. Within a few minutes I was holding one door, while watching the othe dangle from on screw on a hinge. All the while 4 shelves worth of disks, CDs, backup tapes, manuals, drive sleds, and old equpment laid in a big pile on the floor. I busted out laughing and even looked forward to the cleanup. Damn did I act like a moron (more so than usual).

ever seen that little movie clip called "bad day" where the guy is sitting at his computer, hits the screen, then starts pounding on the keyboard before picking it up and smashing the screen in, then kicking it down the hall? well i've been pretty close to that ;)

snow: You're the 43 person to tell me that. Maybe it is time to look for some stress management programs? :) One time thing though. It was a combination of the server and the Novell guy disappearing off the face of the earth. At the time I knew little about Novell and only had the faintest idea how it worked. There was suppose to be someone at Corporate HQ that would help be he just quit one day.

I got so pissed at my cd burner because after months of absolutely no problems it made 7 coasters in a row. I came so close to breaking the tray off when it popped out that last disc.

Man, I'd hate to work on PCs for a living. At work if things go wrong I take it out on the first mofo I run across that's standing around with their thumb up their ass instead of working. No sense beating equipment up, better to make lifelong enemies of co-workers :D

But hell, at home this is a hobby. My sister-in-law asked how I could stand to fight with the issues over and over. At the time she asked that, I was looking at a 5,000 piece jigsaw puzzle that my brother had put together. I'd prefer to spend the time screwing with the PC than a silly jigsaw puzzle. To each his own, I guess.

To me, these PC/OS issues are just like a jigsaw puzzle. There's always a fix. Even if it means buying a new part or deleting a flaky program. Bottom line is there is always an answer. It's more of a challenge and more satisfying to find the less destructive one.

I was pissed at microsoft when i did a windows update with win2k pro. Some securty stuff didn't fully load so i kept getting memory dumps even befor i would get into windows. Tried everything from safe mode to emergincy entrance thingy with the cd. Ended up installing right over it. Still working at getting all my programs re-installed (lost all the .dll's) and my personal prefs up. But this time i can do everything right.

Thank you microsoft, I need that.

If ever you build a computer for someone or sell some bit of hardware to someone & they come back complaining, just ask them if they tried it under BeOS/Linux/OS2 & if they say no, then you can just say 'oh there's your problem, its all MS's fault, you can always RMA your windows disk'.

I've done it.

Now that you mention it, for some reason unbeknownst to me, I've never damaged any of my computer hardware in a fit of rage. Maybe it's because I have so much crap strung off of the machine, by the time I decided which piece to take it out on, I'd have already calmed down.

But let me tell you, I've gone through many a Super Nintendo controller. I've broken more than I can remember. The scenario was usually something like this: Street Fighter II Turbo with the extra turbo cheat turned on. Get to M. Bison leaving nothing but a trail of broken dreams to all the other competitors, completely mopped the floor, not so much as a close match. Then somehow get beaten at the last second by the twit Bison. Place controller in left hand and pound until there's nothing left but three pieces of the printed circuit board, some wiring, and blood spatter. Ahh, doesn't that feel better?

Fortunately, I was able to salvage enough parts from these "retired" controllers to occasionally piece together a new one. A Frankenstein-ish mess for sure, but they worked.

Best regards,
Floyd
