how overclockable is the XP2800+?

From what I've read, the 2800+ is not a OC'ing chip. Assuming it's locked with it's 12.5x multiplier, I've heard it maxes out around 175-180 FSB.

The guy I deal with at my local computer shop has a 2800+ and he says he can't go any higher than 178 FSB with his watercooling setup. I have no idea what core voltage he is running, though.

I'd check out the Overclocking Database and see what others are getting with their 2800+'s and what cooling is being used.

If you buy one from a high-volume dealer, like newegg, they are. ALL of the new Bartons are locked, unless you find one somewhere that's selling them for quite a bit more money, because they have unlocked chips.

I got mines running very stable at 400fsb... 11x200 @1.7 volts.

Ran prime 95 for 16 hours straight..

Ive gone higher (all the way to 220 fsb) but not stable...

11x200 seems to be the most reliable... gonna stay here till i upgrade..

I got mine from Best Buy (hush your laughter); it's a week 20 with a 12.5 locked multiplier (presumed, I can't change it in the BIOS or with the OC program that came with the board)... I haven't tried pumping the bus yet because the AMD stock heatsink is turning in 60-63C after about eight hours of general use (internet, IRC, Media Player) at 2.088Ghz, but once I get a new sink (mmm, SLK-700) I'll see how far it'll go.

a week 20 and it's locked, hard to believe, what motherboard you are using?

I'm running a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2... Neither the BIOS nor the EasyTune application have options that let me change the multiplier, though there are switches on the board above the socket that apparently set multipliers; I haven't played with that because it was my understanding that the multiplier was set in the BIOS, and I don't want to damage the chip and have to clear the CMOS again. 😉

i think there is a CTRL+F1 unlock trick that enables some cool BIOS settings. run a search. if you want to trade for an guarantee unlock barton 2500+, PM me

Tried the CTRL+F1 trick, all it did was unlock my memory timing controls in the chipset features menu... I mean, that's kinda useful, but I don't think there's any way to set the multiplier in the BIOS; either that, or my CPU is in fact locked, which sucks, but I'll live with it until I can cough up for an Athlon 64. /me contemplates high-end air-cooling to 2.4GHz with his 2800+ in the meantime 😉

Actually depends on how good the chip is and if it is unlocked
I'm currently running at 11.5x219 = 2520 mhz @ 2.0Vcore (1.95 actual)
