How overclockable is 2500?

50C while running SETI@Home and about 42C idle. I have good case ventilation so my case temp stays the same as room temp. While playing games, CPU temp only gets up to about 45 or 46... stuff like SETI and Prime95 really put a strain on the CPU.

My week 27 2500+ runs @ 2.2Ghz, 1.85v (1.82v actual) w/an Alpha 8045 and a Sunon ultra high speed @ 7v. Idle is around 48-50C now, load is around 56C in a warm room. It is my understanding that my chip isn't one of the "magic chips" that will do these speeds at default voltage.

My 2500+ is running @ 2.17GHz (180MHz FSB) @ default voltage. With the case temp. averaging 31C, the idle temp. is 38 to 40C and 49C under 100% load (Prime95). I use an Alpha PAL 8045 with a Vantec Stealth 80mm fan to cool the chip.

I have had the chip up to 2.25GHz @ default voltage with a FSB of 180MHz. It was Prime95 stable for 14 hours and then I had to get my gaming fix. I may up the speed to that again when HL2 comes out, but right now I'm fine at 2.17GHz.

This chip is a good overclocker.

I should mention, those temps I gave are taken from the thermal diode... socket temps are always at least 5C lower.

I've seen them hit 2.5ghz on air with 1.85v or less, mine does 2.45ghz on 1.825v actual (1.85v bios)

Mine does 2.17 at 1.75... 13x166... i have no PCI lock. 🙁 Yes mine isnt the ones that can do it at def voltage. Im waiting for summer to pass before i mess around again. 🙂

Lol, Yeah, us air overclockers are seasonal 😱 Overclock when it's hot, Xtreme overclock when it's cool/cold
