I'm 17. Got a license. Got a credit card.

Do I have to be 18+ to get a hotel room for a day/night? If I wanted to see my father which is a 14 hour drive and wanted to stop for the night, would that be a problem?

you have to be 21 in most places. However I have never had my ID checked using priceline.

'nuff said?

Ya, you might not get into Embassy Suites or a large hotel chain. But I'm sure Joe Blow local hotel owner will give you a place for a night if you have ID and a credit card.

I think they actually make exceptions specifically for military folks.

I checked into a Las Vegas hotel when I was 18. They didn't bother to check my ID. It's probably changed now after 9/11.

Have a reservation and your chances will be better.

When I was in Boston one time with my gf we had a bitch of a time getting a room, got turned down at 6 or 7 places before we found a place. I was 20 at the time and had a cc.

You should be fine. I got a room at 17 in San Francisco, the guy just took my ID for the night. I haven't ever seen much of this 21 crap, although most of the hotels I checked out were in downtown Vancouver.

I find it's much cheaper to camp, though, especially ina situation like yours.

The best way to learn how to book a hotel room is to watch the scene in The Graduate where Ben is booking a room. Everything you would want to know is answered in that scene.

We don't have a minimum age requirement, but we do have a minimum maturity requirement.

I've refused to check in people who look like trouble (we are a quiet family hotel - no partiers!) and have kicked out people in the middle of the night for noise complaints, etc.

That said, we lay down the law at check in and then don't bring it up again unless its needed. Most younger guests grow up to be repeat adult guests, and repeat business is the best kind of business!

some places you can only be 18. we (FI and I) went on vacation when we were both 18 and no one ever questioned anything. we did pay with his AMEX though

depends on the hotel, but most places don't care as long as the credit card goes through.

I stayed at a nice place in NY when I was 18 with no problem, just call ahead and find out what their policy is, it varies from place to place.
