I dont think there is an age limit to take it, but I dont think they can count for National Merit stuff untill your a Junior in HS, but I could be wrong about this, but I doubt it.

Most don't take it until later in HS because it costs money to take it... plus it took a a chunk out of your saturday.

There is no age limit I suppose...

Considering it's a company, I'm sure they would let infants take it.

I took the SAT in 7th grade. Scored 760 math, 330 verbal. That was actually the only time I didn't score 800 math.

Why did you guys take it in middle school, and what scores did you get? I'm curious because my brother was asked to take the SAT in 8th grade for some Johns Hopkins scholarship award for kids in the 99th percentile in the standard exams. Of course, he refused, because he didn't want to give up his Saturday taking that test, and because he felt that everyone would think he was a nerd taking the SATs that early.

you do of course realize you don't have to tell everyone that you took the SATs right?

I took it for Duke University's TIP program, where you can take some college courses in the summer in middle school if you score high enough. I learned more in the Pascal course I took there than in any course I took at college age in college.

National Merit Scholars are determined by the PSAT - a.k.a. the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test). You are right that you are not eligible to be a merit scholar until you are a junior.

Heh - my thoughts exactly. I took it as a junior like most normal people, and I'm not going to post my score because I don't need any kind of validation from knowing that I scored higher on the SAT than people I don't know. :)

OK, explain how you leanred more from a Pascal course than any class you took at a college age... The language isn't exactly the most useful these days, so was it mostly theory?

i think you'll always learn quite a bit in your first programming class, regardless of what the language is or when you take it.

Yeah, I suppose you're right - but after you take the rest of them, you realize how little you really learned in that first one. :) And I suppose after you get a job, you realize how little you really learned in college. Haven't gotten that far yet though.
