A debit card requires a checking account usually, and checking accounts almost always require someone over 18 to have their name on the account. Convince one of your parents to put their name on a checking account for you.

Wrong smarty pants.

I've got one and I've had one since I'm 15.

You have to get someone to sign off on your chequing acct and you need someone to sign off on ur debit card.

Same thing as that you can't invest under the age of 18 without the permission of the adult that signed off on ur account.

Don't use a debit card online, ONLY a credit card NOT tied to a bank account.

Just wondering, why do you say that?

Debit cards offer no protection in case your card is stolen or misused. You're responsible for it no matter what.

if someone takes your debit card number and runs up charges, that money is GONE until you get the bank to fix it. with a credit card the money was never yours to begin with so you don't get crushed financially if the same thing happens.

Yea, that's real easy when you can't get one.

Your age shines through pretty well on that post.

I don't think this is true anymore (atleast not with those "visa" checkcard type debit cards). I haven't had any actual experience with this though (thankfully), but I am sure someone else here has.

Why not ask your parents to pay for it and you'll reimburse them?

If you don't have to be 18, then why did your parents have be on the account, too? Notfred was correct in his statement - to have your OWN account, you need to be 18.
