How often will paypal refund your money for a fradulent ebay auction?

I was sold a broken cell phone (it was clearly broken) and tried to contact the seller for the last 3 weeks before filing a paypal claim. How often will they get you the money back? It was about $30

Edit - should I just file a dispute with my credit card company? It's a Chase Visa. The paypal dispute is already open

got scammed on ebay for a 9800 pro few years ago. Went to the credit card company first, they refunded me the money pretty quickly. Paypal also refunded me the money after a couple months also. It takes a while.

it's up to paypal, which means it can take a week or 6 months. best way to do ebay transactions is with a credit card. that way you'll get your money back no questions asked form the cc company. the negative is that paypal may, in some cases, restrict your account if you file the dispute with your CC

Bought a laptop on Ebay and used paypal to pay close to $600. Thank goodness I used credit card to pay paypal. The guy never sent the laptop. I proceeded with their guideline and filed a claim. Got back only $175 ($200-$25 processing fee) then paypal in a way told me to take it or leave it. I then filed a charge back with my credit card and got the rest of the money back.

Paypal is convenient to use but they only think of their interest.

I thought if you used a CC, paypal basically said bye-bye and left you on your own.

Well, luckily I did use a credit card. I thought I'd try to use Paypal's dispute system first, but it sounds like I should just file a dispute with the credit card company.

Is that about right?

Sounds about right.

If you win a dispute, they'll only take whatever's left out of the perpetrator's account. When I won my dispute, I only got a portion of my money back.

Paypal charges a $25 processing fee. If your transaction was for $30, you're looking at getting $5 back. Not worth it.

Bought a cell phone off Ebay a while back and the thing didn't work. Spent $90 on it. After 2 2-3 weeks of sending faxes and shipping the phone back I got $65 or something. Paypal said their processing fee was $25. Lame.

Yeah with CC charge back paypal has to eat the difference

I've disputed with paypal twice, and both times were with websites (fileplanet and some other website i can't remember right now), and i got my money back both times.

Pull the remaining balance from your Paypal account, delete all payment methods from it, and file a CC dispute.

This is the idea that I like best, I think I'll do that. I'm not currently keeping a balance
