How often to clean fans/inside of computer case?

Just wondering. When my fans sound sorta unsteady should I do it? how often do you guys clean your cases?

When it is obvious that I need to do so (dirty), or sometimes when I happen to be working on the machine... If I'm already there, I'll go ahead and blow out both sides, the bottom, and the fans...

Sora unsteady - like, a rmmm-rmmm-rmmm, repetitive sound? It could be dying bearings too. A drop of oil underneath the label, right into the bearings usually helps. I've heard that 3-in-1 oil might be mildly corrosive to the plastic parts of the fan. I think that sewing machine oil is supposed to be gentler. Or so I seem to recall.
