I try and upgrade every 2 years. You can get pretty good prices by waiting a little. Most bugs are usually worked out before I jump in and upgrade my system.

I haven't upgraded my cpu/mobo in over a year but as for other upgrades:

Here ya go Adul:

1 Adaptec 29160 SCSI adapter: 165 (retail box) Bought it from FS/FT forum. Included all cables.

1 Seagate 18gb U160 15k drive: OEM 200 bucks Cnetpc.com

1 Gainward GeForce4 Ti 4400 300 google gear.

This is within the last 2months. So I probably wont be upgrading for a while.

I also obtained a Dell P3 750 for free. I'm using that for ICS.

Take care

9-12months on a CPU. 4-6 Months on a vid card.

800mhz Athlon a couple of years ago  > XP1800 in Jan >P4 1.6A in April > CH when it comes out

GF2 GTS > Ultra 4 months later > GF3 Ti200 4 months later > GF4 Ti4400 5 months later > Will get a GF5 or whatever they call it when it comes out :(

Was a longer wait on the athlon to the xp1800 this time. Normally each year will upgrade.

Where's the "just before you fear your current hardware will be worth zero on the second-hand market and/or obsolete because so-and-so is introducing a new product utilising a new technology called blah, blah" option? :D

What do you condsider an upgrade? Any part? I guess I'd have to vote for once a month or maybe 9 times a year! :Q

How about a catagory "Whenever I hit the Hot Deals forum"?

Getting so I have to just avoid it entirely

If we're talking individual components, I upgrade as I see fit which could make 12 upgrades a year, though for this I considered an upgrade being a mobo/ cpu upgrade.

I try to buy around 2nd or 3rd best cpu, and best mobo. The reason is because the price on cpu's have stabilized to a point that you can upgrade down the road, and sell the old cpu for very close to what you paid for it. IE; Buy a 1700xp now for $120, wait til the 2100xp gets down to $120, sell the 1700 for ~$100. I tend to upgrade mobos when the cpu I want to upgrade to has a feature not supported by the current mobo.
