Actually, what is a phone reboot? Is it power off and then power on? Sleep to wake to sleep - it is somewhat of a puzzlement. My Droid is on or off and there are several modes for on. The term reboot escapes me.

Depends. If you have a kernel panic, the device generally does a "soft" reboot - that is, it reboots to the boot animation. A normally-referred to "reboot" is as if you powered it off then back on (manufacturer splash, kernel splash, boot animation).

Edit: I should say that since I started running a rom based on the final stock ICS rom from AT&T/Samsung I haven't had any problems. Did have some problems with the leaks leading up to the official, though.

Never with either my iPhone 5 or 4. I honestly can't remember that ever happening on the 3G.... but that was many moons ago. Ironically I have had this happen on my older iPod classic.

SGS3 - Never
HTC One X - Never

Sounds like you have an issue with your phone.

My previous SGS2 did it every once in awhile and it was indeed an issue with the battery not staying tight against the contacts. Took a business card and cut two small pieces off and wedged them in between the battery and casing opposite of the connectors and it never rebooted again.

That solution didn't fully resolve my issue. It turned out to be the battery. A second call got me to another person who sent me a new battery. The phone hasn't done it since.

I was wondering about that. I was also wondering if it could be the SIM card. It just rebooted again a few moments ago, and it said on the lock screen "No SIM card. Emergency calls only." Then when it booted up, I could make calls.

It's an old SIM, from a 3-5 year old phone.

Edit: This may sound stupid, but how do you shut this phone off? I held down the power button for 8 secs, and it did a full reboot. (Not a quick reboot like is happening to me occasionally.)

Edit: Hmm, tried it again, this time holding it down for a few secs brought up a menu, and I was able to select shut down phone.

I cleaned the SIM card and what I could of the battery terminals with an eraser. The end of the eraser had black junk on it afterwards.

My galaxy nexus does it sometimes 2-3 times a day on bad days. Sometimes its not as bad maybe 3-4 times a week.

Mine does too.

I kind of understand why Verizon doesn't just let any update get pushed. Google qa isn't so good

My Galaxy Nexus did under 4.0.2 whenever using the GPS or attempting to pull lots of data with weak signal. Frequently. As in, every other time I used Navigation, the damn phone would spontaneously reboot.

4.0.4 resolve all the issues I had with it, but the 4.1.1 update introduced random reboots. Not often, but at least once a week. Couldn't isolate them either, it'd happen when the phone was sitting on the desk idle.

Nothing so far on the HD Maxx though.

Random reboot? Like practically never.

Freeze where I need to reboot? Once every month or less?

My Evo 3d would randomly do it, usually while in my pocket. Shimming the battery made the problem go away.

Well, it rebooted again, some time later in the day after cleaning the battery and SIM card contacts.

My iPhone 5 (and 4 and 3G before that) never did that.

Your phone appears to be malfunctioning.

That sucks. No one should have to deal with a phone that crashes or reboots. I would write to see if you can get it replaced. It's better than trying to convince someone in store because how do you demonstrate something when you don't know when it'll happen.

Edit: That and combined with your weird battery charging issue in the other thread, you definitely got a (no offense) crappy phone. Try to replace that asap.

I've had some kernel panic reboots when screwing around with some different kernels on my GS3. Otherwise solid.
