How often does your ISP go down?

In the past 2 months, my ISP (Cox Communications) has gone down 3 times for 12+ hours. I think that this is very sad. I had AOL and Earthlink for 2 years and NEVER had any of the problems I am having with this cable modem provider.

I cannot wait for DSL to reach my area....

My ISP never goes down, or hardly ever, but my bloody phone company goes down for a few minutes each day. Their ADSL support sucks ass.

My cable has been down a few times for about an hour each over the past year. I always ask for a credit to my account and get one when it happens. They usually bicker a bit, but when i remind them I am paying ro 24/7 service and DSL is availible from another provider that will be happy to have a new customer, they credit me a few $$.

I've heard plenty of horror stories about bad DSL experiences, too, so you might not want to get your hopes up too high.

I'm on a 56k dialup and my ISP has never been down in nearly 2 years (that I know about). There are times I've been logged in for over 16 hours without getting dropped.

im also on 56k and very rarely have any problems at all. my connection isn't a guaranteed 24/7 service, but i have never had my connection dropped due to poor service. i either log off when i go somewhere or would need to reboot the computer. the most i have stayed online in one go is approx 27 hours. although i consider my 56k provider as one of the most reliable around. i have heard many stories from other ISP about not being able to connect or getting connection dropped every few minutes.

He he, he said go down.

I am on dial-up. Onemain.com used to go down weekly.

Now that I am on Earthlink since September, I can only remember only one brief outtage and only a few real slowdowns.

About once at month it seems as if my Bellsouth DSL will go down for a few minutes. And it's usually when I'm playing CS or on IRC or something else interactive and pisses me off. But don't get me started on the news servers. They seem to always be down -- they suck for news.

I have been on cable for 2 years and I have only had a few outages the I noticed. They are usually about 20 or 30 minutes each but there have only been about ten. Only once did we have an outage that lasted longer and it was all day but I had to much stuff to do that day so I didn't really get bothered by it.

My ISP, a local one called Meckcom, tends to go down whenever it rains. They constantly have authentication errors, and the lines are way overcrowded. Unfortunately, it's the only ISP here other than Hovac which sucks worse.

Well the ISP that I'm currently on is ok but then it's the network here at work :).

As to my home ISP well my current DSL provider Bell Sympatico seems good so far. No outages but I've only been with them for 2 months. The last dialup I was with Totalnet was good for the first two years. No long term outages. They did get bad a few months before I switched. They were constantly having problems with there authentication sever. Nothing like dialling in and being told that there something wrong with your password and you know its right ahhhhhhhhhh!
