I'm not neccessarily going to say that this is the case in this election,

but how often do you guys think it happens, when in an election both the candidates arent really all that good, and someone could have probably beat one of them out earlier, if they had just gotten in there and tried?

EITHER McCain or Bradley would have been a better alternative to those two knuckleheads.

I am ancient, yeh, no, prehistoric, and I have never seen a Presidential election where the people had a choice between the best candidates. You can only choose between which asshole you believe will do the least harm to the U.S. and the World.

If you believe otherwise you are a deluded fool.

Cheers.

what I'm wondering is why don't really good candidates run for president more often?

Like why can't we get more presidents like Ronald Reagan? I am sure that they are out there, but they just either dont wanna run for it, or they dont feel like they could win.

I agree with you 100%, but I am out of here, as I don't have enough flame retardant material on today.

i suppose using him for an example might not be the best idea, after how sick and tired people are from hearing about him.

Sometimes, it's a matter of voting for the least worst candidate.
IOW, the important thing is to get rid of the incumbent.

I think Kerry is a great canidate. I definetly don't see the '04 election as a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Everybody says this every election.

Of course most people that say this rarely, if ever, has voted in primary or most local elections.

You want to change something, get off you butt and do something about it. Either join a campaign or run yourself.

That's the first time I've heard that. The liberals I've heard are voting for Kerry just to vote against Bush. I didn't think anyone really liked Kerry.

Because it would be a demotion for a lot of people who would be a great candidate for the job. Besides, you have to have a bit of a character flaw IMHO to want a job where the main perks are hundreds of millions of people hating your guts for no apparent reason, having "exciting" duties like greeting the ambassador to Tuvalu, and never having privacy to so much as take a sh!t in peace ever again.

The media has entirely too much influence over the outcome of the primaries. Look at this year's democratic primaries, Dean would have still been in good shape after Iowa if the media hadn't declared that it was impossible for him to win because he went a little overboard in a speech. I don't think that speech would have made one bit of difference if the media hadn't made such a big deal out of it.

Of course you can't really blame the media for their influence, you have to blame the simple-minded people who let the media tell them who can and can't win.

I've said Kerry is a great candidate too, I'll be volunteering at his campaign in the coming weeks.

92 and 96 were good elections for me although the Repeblican candidates in both were lacking severely IMO.

I disagree.
The media MADE Dean who he was. He NEVER had the support of the inside dem's and Kerry was everybodys Fav. The only reason the average person thought dean had a chance is his name was on the news everday. Kerry had the support of long time Dem's, dean brought out the internet vote and sparked some debate, but that was all.

Also don't forget, that speech came AFTER he lost all the early Primary's. So he was never really in the race. The media juts gave him more life then he really had with long time dems.

Are you just saying that b/c the media has been pimpin' him out for the past two weeks, or do you really think he was a great president?

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I don't remember there being much love for him when he was in office. I know a few thousand airline workers that weren't too happy with him...

I'll second that. Kerry is just another politician and endemic of the problem. But he is the only one who has a chance of defeating Bush. Edwards OTOH is a man of integrity and could have done the country a lot of good, buy had no chance of out-maneuvering Bush in order to win.
