I don't know/don't think so. I think that I'm generally oblivious/flaky so I tend to ignore the obvious, but I don't know a lot of people so unless this guy is a lab partner from my freshman with whom I haven't interacted since, I don't know why I wouldn't recognize him. My name/face database is far from overused. Then again, the person that I think is most likely is a guy I might have said three words to, and that he knows my name only from word-of-mouth of others.

When I was in college, I would often run across these two girls who would always say hi and acted like they knew me. Really confused me. Took me about a year to realize they were my neighbors who I met once.

Were they wearing sunglasses? Sunglasses kills face recognition for me, especially if it's women with those giant ones (not being this guy, just sayin).

Of course. I had a "Hey" buddy through most of college who I'd never actually met, but for some reason whenever we passed each other we would wave and say "Hey!" I finally had a class with him my final semester. He was a nice guy. Don't recall his name... I assume it was just "Hey."

That said, this basically never happens to me anymore. I need a new "Hey" buddy.

Had that experience a few years ago. This girl greeted me while we got onto the bus and we chatted like good old friends during the 20-30 minutes drive (all the while wondering in my head where I met her and what her name was, but it would have been awkward to ask her at that point).

No, but they were fairly generic looking college girls.

almost never as i always remember a face. i can't remember names without giving it a high level of effort. but i remember faces

unless you meant knowing their name, then that could happen a lot
