How often does ASII need to be re-applied?

Although satisfied with the results of ASII, I see my temps creeping back up after a couple of months of use. I even got a lock up last night while playing DAoC. I believe it's the cpu temp because MBM temp reads 57 before entering the game, and I used to get 49-50 idle.

In my own opinion, every 3 months. This may seem like too often but we are in our cases changing/modding/upgrading that often anyway so you might as well just do it while in there.

There is no need to reapply Arctic Silver. It does not dry out. Creeping temps are usually a sign of dust in your HS. A good couple of blasts with canned air will remove the dust.

49-50 is a very high Idle temp...try getting a new and obviuosly better HSF...
otherwise you may applied ASII incorrectly... try applying it again..

By the way, what processor are you on, which mobo and what HSF??

I have an Athlon 1.4/266 running with a SK-6 with a 80mm panaflo fan

I have reseated and reapplied until the final temp was at 47 with the black label delta 7k fan. I switched the delta fan out with the panaflo for 2 degrees, and it held 49 for the past 2 months and never exceeded 55 after a hard 3d workout. Now, I start at about 56-57 and probably hit 60 (where I noticed problems before with my cooling.)

I have an Inwin Q500 full tower case with 4 80mm panaflos and an enermax p/s with 2 fans on it.

I'll try the air blow on the hsf again, then see if I need to reseat the hsf and reapply.

With a heatsink with fine fins like the SK6, dust can seriously hinder results. You might want to give it a soapy bath

Also, confirm that your HSF is blowing INTO the HS. That's how the SK6's are designed. It gave me a nice drop in temps.

Maybe you would want to get Alpha 8045... best HS in the market.

Swiftech makes the best HSF, the MC462. The PAL8045 is on par with it, but the MC462 still beats it by a degree or so. Granted, it is more expensive, but it IS the best

i would definitely look into other factors, like airflow through your case (maybe a cable has moved and is now blocking air), dust (like MrThompson said), or maybe your heatsink could just use a good cleaning (like FlowerMan said).

Well, I cleaned the hs with some compressed air and it did the trick.
Back to 49-50 idle.

So I'm guessing you don't need to reapply ASII every now and then?

I'd hate to have to take off my HSF every couple of months or so!

I better not have to reapply every 3 months. I just got an Alpha and I would have to take my mobo out everytime to do it. That would really SUCK!
