How often do your coworkers call in sick?

This is really starting to piss me off. I cant believe how often people call in sick at my office. Out of my team of 6, someone will almost always call in sick at least once or twice a week, I know these guys arent sick, they just dont feel like coming in to the office. Of course this morning someone called in, I wasnt surprised, and I overheard another one of my coworkers say that he was gonna call in today too, just cause he didnt feel like coming. It reallly screws everything up when someone calls in sick, cause someone will have to do double duty (usually me) and has to clean up all their stupid problems that they've been working on for the last couple of days.

My employer is very very strict regarding absences. My department averages maybe 3 sick days a year each person...not many. Other companies let you miss that much every month...

I know what you mean. While people do get sick and have to stay home, there seem to always be malingerers in my office that are sick 300 out of 365 days a year.

I used 2 days last year for illness. Really was sick.

When I worked at McD's years ago, someone would call in everyday. It was pathetic.

I generally feel bad calling in. I don't like to do it...even if I am sick. I feel like they probably think I'm a slack ass not wanting to come in.

In the three years I've been working full time (since I was 16), I've called in a total of three times & been late maybe 4 times.

People I've worked with during that time have amazed me with their ability to call in sick so many times & get away with it.

The team I'm in is only 15 people, but on average 2 or 3 can be expected to call in. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Techinically I believe we are supposed to have a limit of 8 sick days a year, but I really doubt that my boss is keeping track. I really wouldnt care if it didnt affect me or my team, but it does in a big way. The worst is when someone is on vacation and 2 people call in sick, then I know its gonna be a 14-16 hour day.
