How often do you water your lawn?

I was told it's better to water your lawn deeply then to water it more often. As of now I water it three times a week for one hour (each zone). I live in the North East where it has been quite hot and not much rain.

I was thinking of watering everyday for 30 minutes instead. I'm sure an hour everyday would be best, but I could see that becoming very expensive. Any advice?

That advice is correct. You need to adjust that schedule for your soil type.

For example, I have high clay content in my soil. So i do not need to water everyday, every other day for 15 - 20 min is ok.

Clay soils retains water longer than sandy soil. Water will run-off clay soils and not be absorbed due to frequent watering.

Haven't had to water since we moved in back in November. The previous owner didn't water in the last year, either. Of course, it helps when you live in Central Florida, and we got 3 nice hurricanes.

It's rained enough here that I still haven't had to water my lawn. Love it.

I watered it quite a bit for a while there when it got real hot here in New England, but it's become damper and cooler so I've stopped all together.

What I'm saying is I don't really care all that much about my lawn.
