How often do you TRIM? (ssd)

hey all
I'm just wondering how often I should run win10's optimizing tool, aka TRIM.
To give an idea how my ssd is used...
I have a single 1tb Samsung 850 Pro, with about 400gb used. Usually I completely power down once or twice a week, depending if lightning storms move in and so on. Other than that, it's on for several days in a row, also mostly used for gaming.
Right now, I only run trim about once a month..

The OS will take care of it for you. You really don't have to mess with it.

Ah cool, didn't know it was automatic.
I won't run it anymore then, thanks :)

Manual TRIM was really only a thing in the earliest days before support was built into the OS. TRIM in Raid 0 is also available assuming you have a somewhat recent chipset.

it really depends what OS you are running. Some do not have it build in.

Running Win 10 Pro, but I don't have the optimizer scheduled to run by itself. Which is why I've been running it once a month.

Windows 10 supports automatic TRIM at the system level. You do not need to schedule anything or enable anything by default, it will work exactly as it should.

You can disable TRIM if you have a very good reason to do so, but it will be correctly enabled by default. I think the purpose of the Optimization tool is to run a manually scheduled TRIM process in the event you do not wish to use the automated approach. I cannot think of a reason WHY anyone would do this. Sure, modern SSD controllers have terrific garbage collection processes without the need for any OS intervention, but I cannot imagine how it ever hurts to let the OS aid the situation.
