How often do you report your credit check?

Such as with an employer or potential employer. How many times have you been asked to provide credit history? Seems like a lot of information to someone who you may not be working for.

Also, does doing so alter your credit score?

You inquiring does not but a hard inquiry can by a few points. A crap ton of them will lot.

Yea this is mega bullshit. All it does is make people scared to go out and try and get loans.

I want to buy a car but don't want to affect my credit by letting every dealership check my credit.

Last time I bought a car, a single dealership dinged me 4 times.

Exactly. The toyota place here farms it out to ~10 companies if they can't do it in house. Bam, lose 40 points. "Supposedly" multiples like that on the same day don't affect the score but I'm skeptical.
