How often do you reinstall Windows?

With the blue-screen errors I mentioned in another thread, I'm heavily considering doing a reinstall of Windows 98. The longest I've ever gotten a given Windows install to go before it croaked was a year and three months. My current install is about six months old. Just out of curiousity, how often does anyone here do clean reinstalls of their OS?

once every two months - i'd like to keep it longer, but most of them time serious hard ware changes cause a need for reformat. my last reformat was 3 days ago. hope that helps!

Next time you reinstall, make an image w/ghost after all your apps and data are setup. It's much easier to start with a "fresh" clean image. It takes 10 minutes or so to reimage, depending on the size of it. I start clean once a year or when it gets buggy.

You also might consider W2K. It's much more stable.

Am I experiencing deja-vu, I coulda swore there was a thread just like this recently...

Anyway, I've had my current Linux install for 4+ years now and it's survived all my hardware upgrades, too bad I can't say the same for Win2K.

I do this exact same thing, except with Drive Image. Great stuff!

Ryukumu, I do a re-install about every 6 months or so, either because of some major upgrades, or my system is so hosed that I don't have a choice, hope this helps.

I'm sure there are threads like this that pop up all the time. I should've paid more attention before asking the same question as somebody else. I would try imaging my hard drive, but I don't have the right software.

Not that it would have helped, I tried searching for it and couldn't find it either so it's not your fault.

Dunno why everybody has so much trouble requiring Win reinstalls...

I only "reinstall" when I get a new h/d or upgrade os. I ran Win95(a) for 2+ years in two different 'puters (same h/d). Upgraded it to Win98SE over a year ago. I recently got a new h/d, so obviously did a clean install, but have since then changed mobo's, added memory, changed modems -- all without requiring a reinstall.

The longest I ever got Win98 to go before totally croaking was about a year and three months. But when it started glitching up, it was pretty severe; the computer would restart whenever a data CD-ROM disk was used.
