How often do you go through your wardrobe and toss out old clothes?

I'm just going through mine now, getting rid of stuff I haven't worn in over a year. It's been a while since I've done this...

Once in awhile. I completely cleaned out my closet over the course of a few Goodwill runs this year. Got rid of 75% of my clothes. Trouble is, I'm left with about a half dozen t-shirts, three sweaters, some jeans, one pair of slacks, and about 2 dressier shirts. And I hate shopping. :(

Honestly, I hate to do it. My gf does it on her own now, but up until we started dating almost 2 years ago, I still wore t-shirts that I bought as a freshman in high school (I'm 23). It's not so much an emotional attachment to the clothes or anything (I don't have a lucky shirt, for example), it's just that I hate clothes shopping, especially trying clothes on. The only things I hate worse are haircuts (which is totally illogical as that's a pretty quick and painless thing) and shoe shopping.

When something is in such tatters that it's not even appropriate for working in dirt and mud or painting things, it goes in the trash - and not a day before.

When I find out I can't fit it anymore it goes to a bag in the basement where it slowly decompose.

When I run out of room in the closet. I hope you're at least donating all of those outdated designer clothes. :)

That's the thing; I always donate the clothing, or give it to friends. One year I took some old clothes (even unworn items) to the Salvation Army. The woman at the desk noticed the labels and asked me if I really wanted to give the clothes away.

It's funny, but I always say I'll keep an old shirt to paint in. Of course, I never use it for painting and it just sits in the closet.

Yeah, I've done that with some rattier clothes. The sad thing is that when I do paint, I usually end up wearing my work clothes anyway. I have a few pairs of khakis with paint spots on them, heh (and a few pairs of black socks to go with it).

Heh, well, another reason that I got rid of those t-shirts is that I finally put some weight on (and am surprisingly now borderline overweight after being 140-150, 6' since I was 16) and they would no longer fit if I *wanted* to wear them.

This is another side effect of the gf, eheh. ;)
