Heh heh.. just thought of something for a laugh...
At work we fly a small fleet of Boeing 727's.
Here's some fuel info on those bad boys:
It can hold approx. 51,000 pounds of fuel which is about 7,600 gallons.
This would allow a distance of ~3,000 miles on one "tank"
Or about 0.4 mpg!
Each engine at cruise altitude burns through 400 gallons per hour.
Total fuel consumption is 1 gallon every 3 seconds.
During takeoff, the fuel burn is 1 gallon every 0.8 seconds!
About the only thing we are more economical than, is a top fuel dragster.
