I don't tend to speed more than other cars on major arteries, I don't speed on residential streets.

All units below are metric

so 60 zone I am usually 70,75
90 zone 120-130
100 zone 120-140

And that is basically keeping up with the traffic. Yes, I have punched it once in a while but that is just short bursts.

I don't do this in an econo-box though.

Motorways; generally 90-95mph.
Everywhere else; a bit over the speed limit.

Brakes work good. :)

..............

LOL! Wow...I feel like crying and laughing at the same time. Ooo look at the little baby, he is awesome because he brags about going 60 in a 30-40 zone, what a hardass.

And then talks about his brakes HA!

You're right. When I commute, the goat doesn't get an opportunity to even stretch it's legs. The fastest stretch on my commute is 55 so I might hit 60. But there's always cars around so no room to zoom. The work commute is probably 75% of my driving.

However when I get out and it's not rush hour, then it's a different story. Plenty of room to stomp on it. No slow movers in the way and I can easily hit 90 without even trying. I'm still fearful of running into cops though so it's only for short bursts. The only time I really get to open it up is on the interstates. Still got cops to watch out for though. Everyone speeds on the interstate.

Here's what you don't get. The whole attraction of having a fast car isn't for speeding. It's for the acceleration. Nailing it from a stop and going 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. Dumping the clutch with the traction control off and kicking the car sideways leaving a nice burnout patch and a cloud of smoke. Pulling a rice boi in his slammed Honda or Nissan between lights while his girlfriend laughs at him.

Just got back from lunch and checked my gps. Shows 120mph as max speed. Must be that time I was on this straight 5 mile 3 lane stretch.

I've gotten 0 tickets and I've even gone 95 right up to a police motorcycle... :)

White car supremacy possibly?

Highest over the speed limit I've gone is about 65-70mph, which for a stock economy car... ain't too bad...

And I drive fast almost all the time. Car seems to be pretty reliable even though it is being hammered a lot by my foot...

Hope you don't kill someone and when you get your first ticket, please don't create a thread to cry about it and how to get out of it.

Amen brotha! A car that can go very fast very quickly even when there is rarely a chance to, is a car that can handle daily driving and sane speeds without drama.

I hit 100+ when passing cars on a single lane freeway on the way to work. If there are multiple cars, I get up to 120+.

I'm just trying to merge back as fast as I can so that means flooring it in a passing maneuver. After I pass, I drop back to the posted speed limit.

Are you talking about mph or kph?

o_O Maybe you misread. I went 65-70mph over the speed limit in a 30-40 zone.

But I am glad you're happy. :awe:

But if a cop sees any of that you get a ticket like it's going out of business, that's the problem.

OP you're a fucking bonehead. You're going to kill someone doing that.

I never speed on residential streets (max 30-40 km/h).

I speed moderately on city streets, depending on traffic (60-70km/h in 50 km/h zone).

I speed on highways (110-120 km/h in 80-90 km/h zones). On freeways (100km/h zone), I set it at 120 km/h and get in the slow lane. My car gets uncomfortable going much faster.

I tend to be an emotional driver - if I'm excited or pissed off, I accelerate harder and I pass slower vehicles. Most of the time I'm pretty tame though. I'm probably fortunate to drive a slow car as it keeps me out of trouble LOL.

My car is pretty comfortable even at 110mph/177kmh... Car is sooo slow though. Takes forever to get up to high speeds... And in those times I get up to the speeds... I'm well aware of what's ahead of me... Nothing. >_>

110 is too fast for virtually all roads and passenger cars (there are exceptions). It's not the speed that will kill you, it's the sudden deceleration. 110mph on little street tires is unacceptable in the event that you hit a jagged chunk of metal in the road or some similar obstacle that you can't see early enough to dodge at 60mph, let alone 100+. Bang, lose control, meet tree, go to morgue.

The slightly less crappy possibility is being pulled over by the man and getting your license suspended, getting your car impounded, and then coming out of jail days later only to discover that not only are you looking at sick fines for the driving offenses, but they want $1k+ to get your pile of shit out of the impound for 'storage' fees. That's a FML moment, and I've known more than one person that's been down that road.

I know it's tempting to drive fast, I was young once too, and I'm not a hypocrite, I sped waaay too much in my time, but try to grow up faster. I was lucky, didn't have a wreck and didn't get caught doing 100+ (did get caught pretty close to that though, bleh), but the odds are not good, particularly when you consider what you've got in risk vs. reward :

You're risking all kinds of super fail just for the minor reward/entertainment value of going fast(ish).

There is nothing wrong with doing 100+, even on publically accessible roads. You just have to be mature and responsible about it and know when and where to do it so you don't endanger anyone else. eg: middle of nowhere, long road on a plain with verified lack of intersections or turn offs for a few miles, no blind spots/hills/turns/dips/bridges/roads/visibility obstructions for cops to hide.

As an added bonus, if you can clearly see a mile down the road and know for certain there cannot possibly be any cops anywhere, you also know there is equally no place for a mini van full of kids or a deer to suddenly appear out of nowhere. While I love nailing the throttle, I NEVER drive faster than the distance I can see.

Key point for me is having the brute acceleration that you get there so fast it's over with and you get it out of your system and still have time to slow down before you come up across anything. When you can count on your clock how long it takes to get to 100, you spend a much longer amount of time in that "danger zone"; more time to get caught and more time for disaster to happen.

I don't get that far often anyway. My foot is usually trembling from the adrenaline and involuntarily lifts off the throttle halfway through third gear WOT. ;) The most I ever hit 100 is on ramps where it's 75+ anyway, then I'll wrap out third to redline and coast for a 1/2 miles or so. With the windows down of course.

I use to go over 100mph multiple times a day usually, thankfully I never got pulled over going that fast. I have however had a lot of lesser speeding tickets and other moving violations, and basically just drive in fear of cops, so I rarely even go over 80mph anymore.
A basic exceeding 65mph ticket on the freeway is well over $400 with traffic school fees and other bs in CA.

PS

The only time I've ever been stopped for speeding is in my slow Toyota. Casual constant speeding like the kind people do every day just not paying attention and get busted for, not just discriminating bursts when nobody is looking.

I find it's easier to speed in a slow car, because 1) you don't feel any acceleration so it creeps up on you over time, and 2) you get stingy with your momentum after finally attaining it. One thing I can't stand in my slow car is when traffic in a fast area suddenly stops and drops a load of speed, then hauls ass again and pulls away with me being a sitting duck unable to keep up. I'm more likely to swerve to another lane and avoid touching my brakes at all costs to avoid bleeding off speed in that scenario, vs, a car that can do 20-60 in the time it takes to downshift.

Call it insecurity if you will, I feel I am a much safer and more responsible driver and overall have a better road attitude in a fast car, even with an occasional burnout or sideways flick of the rear end, than in a slow helpless car feeling like a target all the time.
