How often do counter offers work?

Job offer in boston, the offer wasn't high enough for what I'm looking for. How often does a counter request work? I know its a risk (they might just say no), but does it ever work out?

Yeah, doesn't seem like you're interested at the low price, might as well just counter it and see what happens.

Well, I want to move to Boston, and this was a job in Boston, and they were offering some money for moving expenses, but it just isn't enough. I would actually take a loss by moving up there because of all the fees I would incur with my gym contract, etc.

If you are a valuable employee and the company is not having financial difficulties it usually works. Some people will say the employer will see you as less loyal so you have to weigh this in but in all reality most companies have no loyalty towards employees. I don't see a problem doing it but you might go in with a case of all the fantastic work you've done and why you deserve a raise instead of walking in with ACME programming said they would pay me $5 an hour more and stick out your hand. 😛

How much did they offer for moving expenses? Jersey to Boston isn't very far... Anything more than $1,000 and I would have gladly taken it.

I've always got it when I asked for it. I usually go for 2-3k more. My first job out of college I felt like they low-balled me so I asked for 5k more and they gave 4k.

If they want you as part of there team, they will accept or recounter with high offer...simple as that...make them want you....make them need you.....otherwise....your not worth it to them...and you interviewed wrong...and maybe your just "good enough". Truth sometimes hurts. 🙂

If you ask for more money and they don't give it to you, it's a shvtty company to work for. If they are legit and they really want you, of course they will give you a few extra K you ask. Companies always underbid anyways.
