How often are you supposed to wax your car?

I use Meguiar's.. and it seems that every time I wash my car, water stops beading on my hood, but it seems to bead on the rest of the car. But my paint never feels as smooth as when I first wax it... always squeeks when I run my hand over it. Does Meguiar's suck as much as Turtlewax?

How about...never!

Well...if you offer me $500/hr I might do it.

heh heh

I used to wax mine every 3 mos...whenever the seasons would change.

Now, I don't really care as it's pockmarked with door ding dents, some key damage from vandals, a dent from a parking garage incident and lord knows how many chips in the hood from rocks. But, it's 7yrs old and 140k miles and willl be going to my daughter when she turns 17 so I'll probably do something then when I turn it over...a cheap, but decent, paint job...and get the top fixed (starting to tear a bit on the edge)

two things, you shoudl wax everytime water stops beading on your car, second, make sure the wash liquid isn't stripping the wax off. A friend of mine used to take all this time to wax her car and then would wash it with regular dish soap which would promptly stirp the wax right off. Maguire's is fine, but be sure you use something that has brazilian carnuba (sp?) wax. Then get a wax that is for cars and doesn't claim to wax at the same time. Rinse, wash, dry, wax, set, buff.... Your car will shine for years....

Meguiars is pretty good stuff, but it sounds like maube you are using the wrong soap that strips off the wax. Make sure you get a decent car soap.

I don't mind waxing every week, but I don't want to harm the paint by overwaxing. For washing I use one of those coin-op washing places. I suspect it does strip the wax. I have Meguiar's soap, but I can't use it at these apartments. The place I'm moving to in a couple weeks has a car washing area though, so all will be well.

i don't know which meguiars wax you're using, but the one in the burgandy bottle doesn't last long. try #26 paste wax. wax won't last as long if you're parked in the sun all day so that may be a factor. if you want to make the surface smooth, you need to clay. try clay magic or mothers clay. you won't harm the paint by overwaxing unless the surface isn't completely clean. then by waxing you'll drag the leftover dirt across your finish.

Yeah I use the stuff in the burgundy bottle. I'll try the paste.

The surface is smooth, but it just seems to have alot of friction which I interpret as bare paint.
