Yes, yes I did. Just now, in fact.

Lies! You came up with it 10 minutes prior!

I've always wondered what my jury would look like if I were on trial. I'm such a special person, I think it would be very difficult to find 12 people that could be considered my peers.

I just ended two months on call for federal jury duty. I got extremely lucky and never even had to go to the court house. They has me scheduled for 3 different days during the two month period and they didn't need jurors on any of those days. WooHoo!!

I would assign him the longest possible trail I could just for that.

Like the Oregon?

Sush... it's almost time for me to sleep. :D

Being put to sleep? Seems rather drastic treatment for crapping on the keyboard...:p

I generally receive a jury summons every 2-3 years, but once I fill out the card, I never have to actually go in...something about that list of felony convictions seems to end the process...:D
You'd think that sooner or later, they'd take me off the dammed list...

LOL!

Is that a valid excuse? That he can't take time off of work?

No, it's not, because employers and required to give you time off for it.

In fact, he could even be charged for some form of disrespecting the court if the judge feels like it.

I don't know how it works in the US but in Canada employers are required to give employees time off for jury duty, but they are not required to pay them.

The last time one of my employees was called to sit on a jury I did pay him for the three days he was off.

I had a two or three month call-in period for a federal case... called and requested that I have the last two weeks off (which they granted). Ended up never getting called in!

I purposely came in 1/2 hour late to the second day of jury duty during the selection process for a murder trial. They excused me.

I usually get out by saying that I don't have the heart to put someone in jail.
Usually the next thing said is "you don't know if he is going to jail or not" --- which I reply, "but he looks guilty."

Usually I would agree. But then there's this: Three Chicago Cops found not guiltly in bar brawl

Now granted is wasn't a jury trial, but it just goes to show how fucked our legal system really is.
Or how great it can be. One of the cop's fathers died that day and he was at the bar with friends who gathered to support him, when a couple assholes made some disparaging comments about the guy because he was crying. These facts were never disputed. They got their ass kicked. If you're not prepared to get your ass kicked, don't make disparaging comments to people at a bar. Implied consent.

I have jury duty Monday. Looking forward to it as it is my first time in 15 years. Everyone thinks I'll be excused though as my brother is a cop in an ajoining county.

1 time at jury duty. I was the last interview of the day. It lasted all of 5 minutes and i was dismissed.

They could at least narrow the time range a bit.
