no matter how smart my kids are, I don't think I'd push them to attend college at 13. Sometimes its good for them to grow up with their peers, if they're smart, then opportunity will always be there

i hate kids like that. usually they're snotty and uptight because of their intense upbringing focusing mainly on study. I like the people who drop out and fix yer car for 10 years. good to have a bud with them on sunny days (Yea, Porter, talking about you ya bum, lol!)

Then agian, it might restrict them... I think of what you just mentioned is like pairing a P4 with a 250FSB 3500MHZ Core speed with PC100 ram..

My preferred method of parenting is this:

(Note: Only works with multiple kids)

Make a list, posted prominently on your fridge or somewhere similar. Title this list "Kids I love the Most" to "Kids I love the least." Number accordingly.
Every day, adjust the kids' positions/rankings on the board based on their actions, words, etc.

"Timmy, you've been mired in "Least Loved" for 2 weeks now, let's get movin'!"
:):)

This shouldn't cause too many problems in later life, right? :)

Nah, other than the whole "I was never number one in my parents' eyes" complex. I can see the conversation with the shrink now...

"Do you remember any events in your childhood that might have caused your low self-esteem?"
"Yes, I was never good enough for my parents, I was never at the top of their list."
"Are you sure? Some parents just aren't good in expressing how they feel about their children."
"No, I'm sure. They had a list on the fridge, I was never at the top. I have a phobia of lists now, and notes too. What the hell is that schedule on the wall?....Oh my god its a list!! Oh, I see, I'm on Fridays now. What am I not good enough for Monday, you son of a b!tch?"

Storms out angerly...

Nice... the kids are hard-working and, ironically enough, true embodiments of what *used to be called* the "American Dream" , and yet, the envious jerks in this thread are venting their hate towards them... You are the REAL losers, people!

QFT

Jealousy is an ugly thing. And the truth is that Americans in general are pretty lazy with their schooling. Most early-teenagers could be doing what is now considered University-level work, if they started school earlier, studied harder, and were taught more effectively.

success & money is what is on most parents' (who push their kids) minds. They don't care about letting their kids enjoy life. But it's not like they have a lot of options once they do start succeeding... it's like any elite athlete signing into the pros...

Sorry, I fail to see the kids as losers; you, however, manage to fit the description perfectly.

Shrugs, losers? They will have 10 years of salary without the hassle of college loans ahead of most people.
