how much would you spend for glasses?

i've been doing some comparison shopping in malls/dept. stores, and several places are running the 2 for $100 deal with the cheap frames. some places are running "sales" on designer frames, around $90-100 for the frames and extra for the lenses (probably $30-40). the frames do feel better constructed, but i'm not sure if it's worth the price difference. i hate it when lenses pop out of the frame though.

any recommendations with designer frames vs. the cheap ones? just want a pair that's reliable and looks ok.

$100. More on the lenses than the frames... I don't care what they look like (so long as the wife doesn't mind them), and having sh!tty lenses just sucks.

i just paid 500 for my new ones. nice light frames (nike flexion). i have a really thick (lense thickness) prescription so the lenses cost me a ton so they aren't 1/4" thick. i can hardly feel them on tho, most times i don't even notice i'm wearing them.

I think I paid ~$400 last time I went, but that included a checkup, etc. I personally couldn't care any less whether or not my glasses are made by Gucci or Ikea. If they look good (to me) I buy them.

I always buy designer frames, anywhere from $100 - $125 + $5 - $60 for lenses.

I look at glasses like clothing, if you are gonna wear a pice of clothing every day wouldn;t you want something that looks grea,t will not break down and fall apart, as well as comfy & stylish?

I keep my frames usually 18-months and wear them damn near everyday. On a $150 pair that is less than 25-cents a day.

I look at designer frames like I look at designer wallets. They're both generally the same quality and functionally the same; they're both designed to hold something of greater value (lens and money).

Seriously, glasses are pretty simple. I haven't had a single pair of glasses break down or fall apart since I've been wearing them. What's the difference in designer frame quality? Does the label add rigidity?

~50-75 on the frame, lenses cost like 75+50 (to make them thinner since it looks retarded having one lense at a power of 4 and another at 2.5) + 50 for transition lenses

no, but you pay for the design. that's why they're called designer brands.

i don't know about designer frames (never bought them), but i've had some cheaper frames fall apart on me. almost always it's the screw that holds the lens that pops out. hasn't happened on my current glasses, but they're plastic frames and i'm kind of looking for something else now.

I don't pick designer, but I do want a pair that look nice. Frames + lens runs me about $100-200.

Varies, since most frames don't look right on my face...right now I'm eyeing a pair of Pradas and Matsudas. Price is $400-700...but I doubt I'll go that high since I haven't worn glasses in years now.

I would agree, but reverse lenses and frames. I've never had 'bad' lenses, but have certainly had bad frame.

I spent $250 four years ago for this Titanium Frames, recently I replaced my lense which set me back $140 with insurance. It was worth it since I got all the coatings...

The cheap places generally sell the exact same designer frames as the expensive places. The difference is that the cheap places get the last batch of frames that are now discontinued. So you are buying the same brands and the same quality. But you get a ~3 year old style, with no more replacement parts available.

Does being 3 years out of style matter to you? Does the fact that you cant replace a major part matter to you? For most people the answer is no. Styles for glasses just don't change that much year to year and who the heck ever needs to replace a major part of their glasses? So a ~$100 frame is just fine.

<- Ex-mother-in-law was in the business, so I've never paid for frames in my life. Next time I do, I get to pay full price. I'd pay at most $150.

I only wear mine about 20min per day. So whatever is cheap in the package deal. I think last time I got glasses I did the eye exam, 3mo of contacts, and glasses for about $120
