How much would you pay per month to not have commercials?

Say your local cable/satellite company offered a new service where you wouldn't have any commercials on any channels. How much would you pay for it? Oh, and TiVo/DVR doesn't exist :).

it would throw off every show on TV though
30 min shows only last for 15-20 minutes nowadays...you take out commercials from all programming and at the day you would be left with 4-5 hours of dead air...after two shows your show would come on a half hour early at the beginning of the day...and as the day went on just get earlier and earlier. It wouldn't work. It couldn't work unless you had two brodcasts one for those with commercials and another for those without that had extra footage of some sort...

Considering that people pay $20 for a movie, and Hollywood STILL won't show them without commercials...

LOL thats what cable tv started as. They get enough money already then to have to give even more so not to see commercials.

Commercials are bathroom breaks, food breaks, chat breaks, you name it. I'd say they're rather convenient.

I don't mind them. The only time they piss me off is when I sometimes end up falling asleep during one.

Yep - that was originally one of the big draws of cable TV. Most non-network channels had no commercials. Now they seem to have more then even the broadcast network channels.

I rarely watch TV anymore, and don't have cable or satellite. But when I do watch something from one of the cable channels somewhere, I'm amazed at how many commercials there are.

Well considering I pay $5 per month for my DirecTivo service, I'd say... $5

I just watch recorded shows for the most part and with the 30 second skip I never even see them.

wasnt that what cable was suppose to be?! commercial free because of the fees you're paying.

then the dumb public didnt scream when they started adding commercials to cable.

and now look where we are. $50 for cable/dish and you still get commericals.

I pay too much as it is for a simple service that should cost nothing, except comcast has pretty much a monopoly here, with high speed internet too. Verizon better get on their asses with FIOS here.

They are actually talking about creating a way to only pay for channels you want. it would be a small fee per channel, and you would choose the channels you want to watch. I might be intereted in that.

It would be cool to have an online account, and from month to month you could select/deselct channels to your account.

As others have said, that was the original point of cable: you pay per month to get commercial free content. Then the cable companies got greedy. :|
