Like others said $650 for non AKC mutt is crazy.

Heck, I only paid $200 for my AKC registered Brittany(hunting dog) shired by a grand champion. But it was 10yrs ago, and I bought her from a family friend

It sounds like there's plenty of personality in your mom's little maltese. 🙂 Do you have any pictures of her?

And yes, I think she got ripped off as well - paying $900 for the puppy from a neighbor!

She is a cute little thing, very intelligent and playful. I will post some pics when I get home.

Anyone else thinks Boba is starting to look kinda like he should have been named Jaba? JK

That thing either has alot of fur or been stealing steaks when your not watching.

She claims to have purchased the dog for $900, and asked me if I would pay $400-500 for the dog. I think that's a bit high, especially given the fact that she is looking to get rid of the poor thing.

I would be happy to pay a small adoption fee as I did for Boba, but $400-500 is quite pricey.

OMG she's adorable. I paid like $500 for my Shih Tzu... but now that i know more about dogs and the puppy farms, i would never pay for another dog again. But seeing her, i probably would be a sucker.

Anyways, what's the breed?

He is putting on a little bit of pudge. I've since stopped giving him treats for "just being cute," and am walking him 4-5x/day, 20-30 minutes per time. I hope he slims down soon, and will take him to the vet on April 13 for his second set up shots and a check-up. 🙂

i give her sh*t about the "$4000 dog" EVERYDAY! that's ENTIRELY TOO INSANE!! i wouldn't spend a dime over $300....even 200 is pushing it...

$4000????????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Good grief. What kind of dog is it? Does it also grant wishes? Incredible. I could have a quality used car for that price. :Q

my thoughts exactly. i told her she could get a very nice used car for that price... its a white hair dog ... apparently it doesn't have fur, it has hair, so it doesn't shed. its pretty cute but not worth 4k.

Westie maybe? Should not be 4K unless it's the offspring of a famous champion.

i called her and she said its a purebreed maltese. it's got papers. it's white, a female, and she says that it doesn't shed so it must be hair. it's non-hypoallergenic, since it doesn't shed. oh yeah, her parents paid 4k for it. maybe its from a champion, idk. ill ask her later when i talk to her.

 My cat is bigger than your dog.

Have you looked at your local animal shelters? We got our dog there when she was 4 months old. That was 7 years ago and she's a great dog. Half lab/half mutt.

all i want is a tiny little thing like that that i could take places in my hand bag 😱
its sooooo cute! thats kind of pricy though. 🙁

If it's non-hypoallergenic, it would cause allergic reactions.

if the pupp is without a home or in need, i would adopt it for free... as in not charging her to take the dog. pure or special breeds... i have no interest. i do pay a fortune, however to care for, feed and in vet bills for many animals that ppl buy and discard.

two years ago, i took a pure bred black lab, a pure german shepard, two maincoons and a himlayan out of an apartment. cost me thousands to get them healthy, fed and kept until i found responsible homes.

High price (if you believe thats what she paid) trendy dog says its from a pet store probably and therefore probably a puppymill puppy. Sucks to be her.

people need to quit buying these so called "Teacup" dogs. It is very bad for the dog and the breed that people are force-breeding to get tiny animals. They suffer greatly in increased health issues. The less demand, the healthier the breed and animals.

Something is fishy. I have never heard of paying $900 for a mutt. I'd say there are only two strong possibilities.

1) that it's some type of scam where the scammer is using a cute but essentially free dog and a sob story to extract maximum profit from some unsuspecting animal lover.
2) The person is factoring in everything they spent on the puppy so far to arrive at their "cost".

mixed breeds are becoming very fashionable. Google Labradoodle. We saw a half yorkie half brussels griffon at the pet shop last month for $900. We went back a week later and they had sold it and 2 sibings.

I bought the puppy for my mother from a neighbor, not a breeder. They just happen to have two full breed malteses. She wasn't force bred. Her health is great too thanks.

unless she just happened to be a runt, I guarantee you the parents are smaller than the breed standard (likely because of selective breeding)

i only paid 50 for our first puppy, hercules, from the local shelter. that included shots and a nueter coupon for $20. hes a lab, german shepherd mix. lots of friends say they see bull dog in him too, but i dont really see it.

our second dog, hogan, was free and a little over a year old. some woman came into my wifes office and was talking about having to get rid of it, so my wife took it since we had been talking about getting hercules a companion. hes a lab, golden retriever mix.

i dont think i could ever "pay" for a dog. theyre all just dogs to me as far as breed goes. some big, some small, some smart, some stupid. i like big, smart dogs(hogan has no common sense, tho). i would much rather save one from a shelter than pay a crazy amount for one, no matter how cute or registered.

hercules
hogan

My family paid $1500 for a German Shepherd. Worth every penny.

Our first German Shepherd only cost us $300, but that's because we knew the person who was selling the puppies and she gave us a good deal. She was selling the rest for $2000+ (the father was rated the 7th best German Shepherd in the nation). I would gladly pay $2000 to get that dog back (he's dead).

However, I don't know about the breed you posted. But depending on the breed, and how much you like dogs, they can be worth paying a lot of money for.
