all the mentioning of other people's offers is really making me think this is some type of scam or something.

That's the vibe I'm starting to get. I'm happy with my puppy for now, but would have been willing to rescue/adopt that puppy if it had a more reasonable adoption fee. All of these supposed bids from other people who are interested are definitely a turn-off.

Last e-mail when I asked whether or not the dog or its parents were AKC-registered and whether or not Tiny would come with any papers:

"No ..The only papers I have are the papers her owner gave me regarding her first shots which were taken at the end of March. Not registered with any association."

Sounds like my mom's maltese. She is only 5 months old, very cute dog. I think she only weighs 3lbs and will be no more than 4lb (she was the smallest out of her siblings). She has such a personality!

EDIT: I would pay $100 for a dog like that at the MOST, it's not even purebred.

She got ripped if she paid $900 for that.

That's a remarkably low price for AKC-registered purebred lab puppies. My husband and I would love a lab, but we're going to wait until we purchase a home before we adopt any big dogs from the pound.

It sounds like there's plenty of personality in your mom's little maltese. 🙂 Do you have any pictures of her?

And yes, I think she got ripped off as well - paying $900 for the puppy from a neighbor!

I can't see why anybody would pay these ridiculous and exorbitant sums of $$ for a dog when there are dogs being put to sleep every day due to people abandoning them and failing to spay/ neuter. I have 2 dogs I adopted from ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation). I believe I paid $80 each to cover adoption fees/ support the organization. If I were interested in adopting this girl's dog I would offer it a good home, but not be willing to pay $$ for it, after all I would be doing her a favor by agreeing to take care of the dog for the rest of its life. Her comment about providing all kinds of dog products "free" is a joke as the price of those items is rolled into the amount of money she wants for the dog.

I'd pay nothing, there's enough strays in the world to not have to pay.

Would you adopt a stray, or pay an $80-90 adoption fee for a dog from a shelter? There are a number of strays in the area where I attend school, and they run around in packs.

Our next dog will be from the pound, and our current puppy was rescued from a couple who was going to send him to a shelter if nobody adopted him. I think the $200 adoption fee I paid for Boba was reasonable given the fact that he also came with a crate, a 38-pound bag of puppy food, 2 toys, a sweater, a leash and collar, and a bag of treats.

I wouldn't pay HER, I'd be happy to pay a shelter or another good organization, but just by agreeing to keep the dog you will be spending possibly thousands over the life of the dog. She sounds like she made a poor decision and I should not have to help her recoup her losses. The main focus of her post seems to be her not losing too much $$, not necessarily the best home for the dog

 It would probably make a fine pet, but $900 for a mix is a ripoff. Make a fair offer for a healthy mixed pup if you want.

Something is fishy. I have never heard of paying $900 for a mutt. I'd say there are only two strong possibilities.

1) that it's some type of scam where the scammer is using a cute but essentially free dog and a sob story to extract maximum profit from some unsuspecting animal lover.
2) The person is factoring in everything they spent on the puppy so far to arrive at their "cost".

If I was looking for a dog for my other dog to play with, $200 isn't much to pay considering what you got and that they give them a general checkup and stuff. $900 seems excessive however.

Whew, $2500! What kind of dog - pictures?
She's a pure-bred, red, German Sheperd 🙂
She was also 4 months old when we got her, so she was already potty trained - no assembly required 😛

my GF's p arents payed $4000 for their dog. its a white, non-hypoalergenic dog.

i give her sh*t about the "$4000 dog" EVERYDAY! that's ENTIRELY TOO INSANE!! i wouldn't spend a dime over $300....even 200 is pushing it...

Do what I did. I found a Jack Russell Terrier, wandered into my yard, about 3 to 4 months old. Cute as can be.

I wish I had a cute jack russell terrier wander into my yard. 🙂 Have you checked around to see if he might be someone's lost pet?

Wow. She is a gorgeous animal, and you definitely got lucky since she was already potty trained. 🙂 Do you enter her in dog shows? How many pounds is she, and is she full grown?

First of all, as others have pointed out, $900 for what is essentially a mutt is insane. There is no way that anyone in their right mind would pay that. I also agree that the other "offers" are most likely bogus in the hopes that they will pressure you to make a rash decision. If you want the dog, go with a fair adoption rate (I paid $65 for my pure black lab) and then you can factor in the extras that may come with the dog. If she has only had it a week, chances are the breeder provided the first set of shots, so she isn't out any money on vet bills. I definitely wouldn't be inclined to pay for someone else's stupidity - $900 for a mutt? Yeah right. :disgust:

$4000????????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Good grief. What kind of dog is it? Does it also grant wishes? Incredible. I could have a quality used car for that price. :Q

Yea, we did. She's a great dog. Our first dog died and we were looking for a new one, and the breeder just happened to be in town for a dog show, so she came to our house with a couple little puppies and we chose her 🙂
We've never entered her in dog shows or anything, but she would win 😉 😛
Hmmm.. I haven't weighed her in a while, but she's around 80-90 pounds? I guess that sounds right. She's like 6 years old, so yup, fully grown.

Awesome breed. Awesome breed.

Border Collie might be able to do your taxes, but a German Shepard could review them and look for mistakes.

As per above, $600 for a mutt is absurd unless it's trained to sniff out cocaine on planted inside car tires. $250 at most, *IF* you have paperwork on the parents confirming no genetic problems and you really want the dog.
